Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a great great great granddaughter of John and Rebecca (Baltzell) Burkhart who arrived at what is now Albany, OR in 1847. One of their sons, Leander Columbus Burkhart, was married to Melissa Ann Davidson of the Hezekiah & Melissa Davidson family of Polk County. They had traveled with the Burkharts to Oregon. Leander & Melissa had a daughter, Nellie Olivia Burkhart, who married & had a daughter named Pearl Laura Baker. Pearl fell in love with Harry Hoyt Taylor, a school mate. It was a match made in Heaven. They married & had 2 daughters; the older one, Helen, married a Hungarian doctor who had fled Hitler's madness; they lived & died in New York. The younger one, Patricia, was my mother. She is buried with her parents at the Multnomah Park Pioneer Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. I live in Southeast Portland, Oregon with my black cat, Shadow. I have an older sister living in Portland and a younger sister living in Corbett. My only son lives in SW Washington. I also have a married niece & married nephew living in the area & a niece, sister & brother-in-law living in California. I have been creating a Family Tree since mid-Oct. 2010; little did I know what I was getting in to. I was able to use many of my mother's old records from the 1960s-1980s, but have been so thankful for the age of computers & also for "Find A Grave", which has helped me sort out so many of my Burkhart, Ellis, Baltzell, Taylor, & Davidson relatives on my mother's side, mostly in Oregon, and my Webb, Gatlin, Warters, Uzzell & Lassiter relatives as well as all of the people they married on my father's side, mostly in Georgia & the Carolinas, and my son's father's family. I truly appreciate all of the time and effort all of you have spent creating this site; it's right up my alley as I enjoy sorting things out & solving puzzles, putting things in order, etc. I was a Social Services Worker for many yrs., but had to retire due to severe migraines; I now have problems with Reynaud's making my hands cold, pretty severe arthritis so I need to have both knees replaced & a right ankle I sprained for the 6th time just Jan 2014. I've been told I have no tendons left which all explains why I am not as mobile as I used to be (and miss it!). I was hoping to get new knees two years ago in 2012, just in time for my 61st birthday, but some other issues arose. I've not been able to spend as much time on my family tree & memorials as I'd like, need about a week non stop to catch up. In the mean time, I spend what time I can researching & rediscovering my ancestors who came to Oregon (stopping along the way in VA., TN., MO., ILL., Iowa, TX & CA) in 1847 and settled portions of the Willamette Valley, Eastern Oregon and Southern Oregon. I also have a 1st cousin who was in Virginia who was helping me rediscover my father's side of the family, which I, sadly, know almost nothing about. I have another cousin living in the San Diego area of CA. I have tried to contact him, to no avail. The other cousin prefers hand written letters. I'm afraid I didn't hear back from him, either. I am finding, via Find A Grave, many more cousins throughout the United States, however, which is really exciting. I am still hoping to hear from my one remaining uncle in the mid West. I have recently found Jewish heritage under the names of Burkhardt, Mayer, Freiburger & Huepfer going way back (to the mid 1600's)to when some family left Germany and ended up in Johnson Co., Georgia, America, among other places. I wish I knew more. In case you can't tell, I do tend to get side tracked frequently, especially when it comes to the graves of "little ones", Veterans & others without any flowers, & will leave flowers or an Angel for them, especially if they have none there, which I find incredibly sad. I ran into a Vietnam Vet at a grocery store Summer 2012, who rides at funerals (The Patriot Guard). I actually was brave enough to go up to him and thank him & shake his hand; I told him about Find A Grave & gave him the web site address. I hope he looked us up! Thanks to all of you so much for all of your help as I am only human, am just striving to be better, One Day at a Time. When my computer was hacked July 2011, I missed Find A Grave the most! I'm so glad my son's been calling me regularly; he has a good job that takes him out of the state alot and has moved up to Washington. I also talk with my dad, who is a World War II vet, & is now 89, every week. I am so grateful he is still around. I have also heard from relatives whose family came to Oregon about the same time mine did and they settled not too far from where my family did. Talk About A Small World! May God take care of everyone. You are some very special people, as if you didn't know! I also use familysearch.org site which can be very helpful..******Spend time with your loved ones while you have them. I spent time with my nephew and his bride, my niece and her beautiful daughter and my younger sister on Christmas Eve, 2013. It was wonderful. Thank You Father. My niece is married to a very wonderful gentle man she has known & cared about for many years; they welcomed a beautiful baby girl into their lives on Oct 30th, 2013, so my sister is now a grandmother! I am so happy for all of them! I have heard from my sponsor of almost 35 years has been severely disabled with a broken tailbone. I got a lovely card from her the day after my birthday and I never would've thought my 62nd birthday would've been as great as it was, especially with the storms, but it was great hearing from my son & my dad and my sister made me dinner, so all was good. She also just sent me a Christmas card with an update on how she's doing and that she is, slowly, healing. I am so grateful to God. My knee, ankle & foot problems continue to plague me to the extent that I had a cortisone injection in each knee on Oct 1st, 2013 as I'd been bedridden, and it helped. I finally got a new computer back on Sept 1st. I am totally frustrated, not always following my doctor's orders, but trying to. My gmail.com address has worked out much better although I am checking yahoo about once a month to deal with causes I believe in. Please continue to use my gmail address from now on. Thank you so very much. Take care and stay safe and warm, preferably with someone you care about. Spring has finally arrived in Oregon during the day, although it is still cold at night. I feel badly for all of you back in the Mid West & East who have had a Winter that just won't quit! I hope things begin to thaw out soon, but no flooding. Our East Winds can be brutal, but I am so grateful to have a warm home. Shadow comes and sits on my hair when I'm lying under the covers, at night, watching TV, before going to sleep. She purrs and I reach back and pet her; she's so sweet, will be 14 yrs. old in April. I've been abstaining so I can get my knees replaced and possibly my right ankle. One Day at A Time, by the grace of God, as I understand Him, I'm gonna do this. Can it really be 50 years since I sat in front of my folk's TV in our livingroom, watching Ed Sullivan and the Beatles came on & sang, "All My Lovin'"? I felt something stir inside me and knew I'd never be the same. I was 12 years old. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I suddenly feel so old. Even Shadow has white whiskers, now.
With All Sincerity,
Kathie L. Webb Blair (& my black cat, Shadow), in Portland, Oregon, USA. March 23rd, 2014

RE: Sponsoring Schlomo
Two days after my beloved Molly went to the Bridge, I went to PetSmart, with the two granddaughters, to return her special food. They were having a cat adoption that day and my girls drug me to where two kittens were. They were totally entwined around each others bodies and bathing each others heads and faces. The Whiskers people said they were like that all the time and they hoped someone who take both of them. I would not have replaced so soon...would have waited much longer but they insisted I bring these two home. Even tho one is black and one is grey (pic on my bio page)I brought them home. They have not and never could replace that precious soul I lost but they have made themselves part of the family and my heart. They turned out to be part Maine Coon and much younger than the Whiskers people thought they were. I have never had big cats before. Always preferred a small, abused, abandoned cat and preferably black. Sophie and Savannah were found abandoned and near death by a restaurant in northern Georgia. Cost the rescue people a fortune plus lots of fostering and trips to PetSmart etc. to find a home but these two have landed in the lap of luxury. I know no other cat at all will ever take HIS place but there is a cat that can fill part of that hole in your heart. Keep looking and good luck. Nancy

Clair de Lune
Thank you for your note at my mother's memorial. Your words show you took the time to read her biography and to think about her playing Clair de Lune.

Thanks for the heads up about duplication. As you know, the cemetery names vary from generation to the next, creating confusion. Also, it is better to be remembered than not at all, right? THANK YOU
