|Debra Bryon||John and Agnes Begg gravestone|
The gravestone in Heaton cemetery Bolton was very hard to read but was able to transcribe most of it. I will happily forward this for you if required. Regards Debra.

[Send Reply] Question about Woodland Cemetery
Katie Lou- I may be visiting Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines this Fall. Could you please tell me the location of the office where the records for this cemetery are kept. Thank you very much.

If you do not have this information hopefully this will help. I live in West Des Moines and Des Moines, Iowa all my life. Call this number before coming to Des Moines to the Woodland Cemetery. The Parks and Rec. Dept. take care of the cemeteries. The number is (515)237-1386, they should be able to tell you where the records are if they aren't at the State Historical Building which is at the foot of the Capital on E. Locust.
You probably have a GPS and will take I-80 west past the Altoona exit, stay in left lane (loads of construction) to the I-235 exit, than exit at the MLK Parkway south (left lane), get in right lane, go to second light, that is the Woodland Cemetery. Parks and Rec. Dept. is at 3276 University. Just get back on MLK going North to University, next main street North of I-235. From all of this you can get back on I-235 on go East, exit at E. 6th, go down to Locust there's the Historical building where all State Records are up to certain dates. Hope you have a good time.

You are very welcome. Yes, It has been very hot here. It was 108 at 3:30 today. I try and go to the cemetery around 8-9 am. Then it is around the 70's to 80's and it's not to bad. I only live a mile from the cememtery and it is one of the prettiest ones I've ever seen and it has more flowers on the graves than I've ever seen even on holidays. It is very peaceful there and there are memorial benches all over so you can sit when you need to. I'm glad I could help you. Thank you Joanne

Russ ... Thanks so much for taking a walk and taking a look (twice around is beyond the call!). Last summer I started going to cemeteries with a "volunteer," so I know how many illegible stones are out there. I'll just go with whatever online info I have and maybe someday something sure will show up. Again, I really appreciate you taking the time and making the effort to help me.
