I thought it sad when a Cemetery (Pennsylvania) said I had to have a notarized letter from the families to take photos of tombstones.
It is a far worse day when I read the Find A Grave Complaints and people are so worried about 'privacy'. I deleted 377 memorials and transferred five to others. This chunk of history is lost forever.
I am so angry about this. This wasn't any invasion of privacy, it was free genealogical information that someone will have to pay money for in the future.
This chunk of history was a part of my life, people I wanted to know where they were and visit their memorials every so often.
This privacy issue is bull crap.

Thank you for the Hague transfers at Sandy Hill Cemetery Fayette Co. Pennsylvania... Michael
I read the message between you and "Heaven's Gate" about not being allowed to take photos. Cemeteries (unless on private property) are PUBLIC. Other posters have said to call the police and report it.
|Heaven's Gate||RE: photos|
I think it is most unfortunate that there are people who feel that pictures should not be taken. I feel it is better to acknowledge someone than to allow them to have left this earth with no one caring. It is through this site "Find A Grave" that many of us can find our ancestors, descendants, etc. What a pity.
|Sheila Duplaga||RE: Corrections|
Thanks for the updates. I read your info about not adding pictures. That is too bad, the pictures are a nice addition. I have family at Lafayette and have not yet added pictures.
|Beth Bailey||Really ????|
It was a very sad day Tuesday (March 18, 2014) when a local cemetery(Pennsylvania)told me it was an invasion of privacy for me to take photographs of tombstones. I would have to have a notarized letter from the family before taking any more photos at this cemetery. I took down 182 photos off of Find A Grave.
How in the world can taking pictures @ a cemetery be considered "an invasion of privacy" ??? If that is the case,then Id love to know just who it is that pays the taxes, pays the employees for the maintenance etc...
We to was told pretty much the same thing out here in South Dakota but in our case,we was told the cemetery itself was private property etc.
After a little bit of investigating & a lot of phone calls later....we the tax payers "own" the cemetery.Granted,there are "private family"
cemetery's that would prefer NOT to have their loved one's stones on this site & so yes,I respect that but in my humble little opinion,this place that told you the above was way out of line...Geesh !!!
BTW : Was this by any chance a Amish cemetery ?
OK, I now realize that Stephen Arkwright is also buried in West Virginia, so am deleting my memorial for him in Oak Grove Cemetery. They are buried in East Oak Grove Cemetery of Morgantown. Ouch, my mistake!!

May I ask what cemetery gave you trouble claiming our privacy?
|Mary Ann||Roscoe Jack Johnson Jr's Photo request|
I read your biography on Roscoe. How sad that he was homeless. I looked up his pertinent information on the national gravesite locator and I submitted several edits for him based on the information registered on this there. I will try to get a photo but don't know if I'll be successful. Several markers in that section are installed, several are not. I don't know if his permanent marker has been installed or not. Also, I try to take close up and distant photos and don't know if I can the distant photos but I will try. This section has new burials and could be muddy.

I just happened to notice that you left virtual flowers on these memorials and wondered if you were a relative?
