Hello Neil - how wonderful of you to contact me. Don't know where to start - so much to say. My father was Harry Holmes and consequently Edgar was my uncle. I remember Harold when I used to visit Didbrook as a child - a place I still dearly love. I still keep in touch with Uncle Horace's daughters who are Anne and Elizabeth and they are exactly the same age as myself. My Mum, Norah, is 94, but sadly at the moment she is very unwell in a nursing home. It fact we only spoke yesterday of where she wanted her ashes scattered at the appropriate time - Didbrook cemetery. Dad had his ashes scattered there - he was not lucky enough to live to a great age, like most of the Holmes Clan - and he died aged 65. He was scattered with Grandpa Holmes and Len and it is such a wonderful place that I have requested that I might also 'go' there.
We were very fortunate a couple of years ago to be treated as V.I.P.s at the Guards Wellington Barracks, where all my family saw the V.C. We had lunch in the Officers Mess, a tour of the Guards Chapel and tea in Buckingham Palace. It was a wonderful day and it made the younger members of the family realise just how marvellous it is to receive the V.C.
I am now living in Surrey again, after living in Worcestershire for approximately 20 years, and I very much miss the countryside both in Worcs. and Glos.
My daughter is about your age, Neil - about to celebrate her 50th birthday also.
If you have an e-mail address I could send you a picture of our visit to Wellington Barracks.
I am hope in the not too distant future to visit Edgar's grave with the family - perhaps next Summer. I have a wonderful picture of him in my loung and say hello to him most days.
Lovely to hear from you Neil and any of the other Holmes clan.
Pam (daughter of Harry Holmes)
