Bio and Links
Bio Photo An old soldier, who is well-read and blessed with a good education. My interest in family history was fed by the women of my family, God bless them. My mother always assumed I'd write the family history, whatever that means. To the best of my knowledge she knew only her grandparents.

Family lore had circulated about our ancestors rafting down the Ohio River. This was somewhat supported by a sheaf of fading, flaky photostats discussing the Mefford family of Mason County, Kentucky, which I inherited upon my mother's death. However, when analyzing the names I couldn't bridge the gaps between missing generations.

In 1991, after I acquired my first computer, I discovered tools and a matrix in which to place my data and developed ways to expand upon it. With the passage of time, I have traced some of my lines of descent through the Plantagenets to the Counts of Anjou and Normandy, discovered numerous Colonials — even dating back to Colonial Jamestown, at least six Revolutionary War patriots, and I've encountered numerous cousins I hadn't known existed — some of those have become dear friends and collaborators.

My mother would have been astounded and proud of the family I've rediscovered. N.B.: My maternal lines include, but are not limited to: Neal, Mefford [Meffert], Turley, Bailey, Raizor (Razor), Witcher, Dewitt, Sullivan, Rice, Rule, and Abshire. My paternal lines from Lebanon, to the best of my knowledge, include: Farris, Solomon [Suleiman], Hayek, al Khoury, Guttas, Ishe [Eishy], Tanous, Romanos, Shouwaysha, and Zoghby.

I'm not a relative. I am a researcher, currently researching in Charlevoix County, Michigan. When I find burial records, I add their names. I am so glad that you found her. I did link up some of her family since then.

Hello George,
Thank you so very much for the compliment regarding Jacob Vaught's memorial. Of course, now I am curious if you are also related and how.

RE: William Thomas Mefford FAG Memorial# 5241938
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your message! I am a descendant of William Thomas Mefford and Frances Mary Wash (great-great-grandparents). The provenance of the tintypes is that they belonged to my great-grandmother, Laura Mefford Shaw - youngest daughter of William and Frances. Then they were in my grandmother's (Lillian Shaw Baker Adams - daughter of Laura and her husband John) possession for a few decades before they were given to me by my dad and uncle when my grandmother's house was cleared out and sold (she is still living at the age of 102, but is in a nursing home).
Almost none of them were marked. Harvey Scruggs Wash's was marked, but otherwise, I either don't know who they are or I have recognized a few of my great-grandmother, one of her sisters and William and Frances by either recognizing facial structure (I knew both my great-grandmother and her sister Carrie for several years) or by comparison with other known photos. I have a really good one of William, Frances and three of their five children (as well as a family dog), taken near the turn of the last century, that is not a tintype. I can send you that one, if you'd like.
How are you related to William?

Dear George,

As Charles Neal is not a direct relative of mine (we are distantly related through the Neals), I am more than glad to transfer management of his memorial.

Sincerely,
Martha Hamilton
