Francis Xaver (b.
9-26-1874 Switzerland, d.4-29-1902 KC, Wyandotte, KS) was the son of Jakob WURTENBERGER (~1830 Germ, d. ~1875 probably Switzerland) and Gottwina "Katie" MERKT (b. 1831 Germany, d. 1-14-1911 Olathe, Johnson, Kansas; d/o Anton MERKT
and Maria Verena MAYER both of Germany). His brother's obituary, William, describes "...About the time of the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War, the family moved across the line into Switzerland, and the family registration
papers were executed in Canton, "Lurich", Switzerland. Soon after, their going to Switzerland the father died, leaving the mother with seven children. In 1890, the family moved to America. For a few years they lived in Kansas City and later bought the farm at the north west corner of Olathe (Kansas)... the last few months of his (William's) life he was cared for by his older brother and his sisters, Louise and Kate... He leaves to mourn his loss, one brother, three sisters, and several nieces and nephews...".
Francis' siblings were:
Gallus MERKT (half-brother b. 10-15-1857 Herden, Germany). No record of him past birth.
Emil 1865 Germ - 1946 Olathe, Johnson, Kansas. Never married.
Immigrated to NY in Sep 1888. Received MO-Western District Naturalization papers
Anna D. (twin) b. 1872 Germ, d. 1962 Kansas, marr Adolf Henry EISMAN.
Katherine/Kate (twin) b. 1872 Germ, d. 1959 Kansas City, Wyandotte, Kansas; marr. Samuel WRIGHT
Mary Louisa b. 1-31-1867, married and divorced by
6-1900, no children, d. 5-25-1931.
William b. 1868 Germ, d. 1928 Olathe, Johnson, KS
Married to Pauline K. DEITZ and then Augusta MOTZKUS ("widow with a number of children")but no biological children are known.
Jacob b. 1874 Switzerland, d. 1902 Olathe, Johnson, KS. No children.
All of the children except Gallus (unknown) and Emil (immigrated earlier) immigration to NY on
5-26-1890 on the ship La Normandie out of Havre. Mary owned a dairy farm which Emil lived and worked on. Anna and most of her siblings were christened in Katholisch, Hohentengen, Waldshut, Germany, including Gallus. Sister Mary's will
mentions sisters Annie EISMAN and Katie WRIGHT, brother Emil and nephews Harry and Fred EISMAN.
Francis Xaver married Kate (?) b. 2-1869. They had, at least, children Francis Xaver b. 8-1895 KS and Joseph b. 1-1897 KS.
