Came for the genealogy, stayed for the cemeteries. Family lines: Hammel, Smith, Martell and Jones, mostly of Pickaway, Fairfield and Columbiana Counties in Ohio. Kroner, Greiner, Holzberger and Gettle, mostly of southeast Indiana. I also have photos and documents through family connections to the Murray, Heffner, Kiger and Riegel families of Pickaway and Fairfield Counties in Ohio. |
I'm currently working on the history of Shanesville, Ohio (now the west side of Sugarcreek). It's still keeping me busier than usual, so I haven't been as active with my graving. I handled most of the editing and writing of "Shanesville: 200 Years On The Hill", which was published in August 2014. If you need any help with ancestors in the Shanesville/Sugarcreek area, let me know. You can also follow us on Facebook - see the link below.
I will consider sharing my photos with those who have the decency to ask. I may also have further information on the family names listed above, and am always happy to hear from distant relatives.
I've chosen not to display my email address for reasons of privacy and security. Please contact me via "suggest a correction" through the appropriate memorial or leave a message on my profile page. Thanks!

Glenn: Thanks so much for 1.) surveying the cemetery for those of us who are far away and 2.) sharing the insight you have on the stones. I will somehow have to find a way to resolve that the Mom Sarah was only 9 when her daughter Jane was born, per the records. Glad transcription gave her age. Thanks again!
|N. Houston||Sarah Myers Finney birth|
Glenn: I am descended from James Finney & Sarah thru their daughter Jane Finney who marr. John Wentworth abt 1828 in PA. I was showing a birth year for Jane of 1809 & got "fussed at" by Ancestry because that is too soon to be a child of Sarah, b. 1800. Yet the Memorial shows her to be age 79 at death. Might I ask where the info. came from? AND are you family or one of those wonderful people who record cemeteries for others who can't be there. I have recently discovered this great grandmother's line, and so I would love to get my facts correct. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.

Glen, the birth (13 Feb 1798) and baptism (Mar 1798) of Catharina Reuter, d/o William & wife, is recorded at Bindnagel Lutheran Church in Lebanon County. Her baptismal sponsor was Juliana Fortner. The Ridar, Reiter, Raider spellings are typical of how German names got mangled by English speakers. You can find a reference in John T. Humphrey's book, Pennsylvania Births, Lebanon County as well as F. Edward Wright's Early Church Records of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania.

No, I can not read the dates. I have the book for the cemetery from the Cosh. Co. Genealogical Society & their info has Mary as dau. of J.& M. Luke, died May 17, 1879 - aged 2m 5d.
That's where I got my info. I was just filling a request & checking the info I had.

Darn! I was so hoping she would be there. I am sure she is in one of them, I will just have to keep searching. She died in Holmes. Some of them moved back and forth between Holmes and Coshocton. Thanks for quick reply!

Thanks so much, it is nice to run into a shoe string relative. Being a Newbe I contacted info at Find A Grave & I understood from them I could use that unknown cemetery for those that I don't have knowledge of where they might be buried. Are you saying that there is a better place to list them. I'm always willing to learn if someone takes the time.
Thanks for all your help.
