I do believe that my dad is still here watching over us. He was a beekeeper and occasionally in my house, I can smell the smoke from a bee smoker (which is unique in smell). My husband or daughter cannot smell it. My mother, who lives across the road from me, says she's heard footsteps, heard doors slamming, heard the sound of that metal bar falling in the basement... the metal bar my dad used to push a big stick of wood back into the wood furnace down there. And she says that she doesn't feel afraid when she has gotten out of bed to check on those sounds. And... she also smells the bee smoker smoke from time to time.

So my dad is still here, I believe, watching over my mom and me. =)

My Dad
There is a song that a singer named Paul Petersen had sung and it was called "My Dad." I always wished that if it were possible to have some type of recorder on my dad's stone with a button for visitors to push, I would have wanted this song to play. Your words along with your 'flowers' meant a lot tome, thank you for that.

My Dad Lyrics
musician: Paul Petersen

He isn't much in the eyes of the world
He'll never make history
No, he isn't much in the eyes of the world
But he is the world to me

My dad, now here is a man
To me he is everything strong
No, he can't do wrong, my dad

My dad, now he understands
When I bring him troubles to share
Oh, he's always there, my dad

When I was small I felt ten feet tall
When I walked by his side
And everyone would say "That's his son"
And my heart would burst with pride

My dad, oh I love him so
And I only hope that some day
My own son will say
"My dad now here is a man"

I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit the memorial of my Grandmother, Bette Pratt Fitzhugh. You also left a token in honor of her Angel Day, which was on April 12th. Thank you very much. Your kindness is greatly appreciated!

RE: geraldine cook

You're very welcome. :)

I just read your profile, and I, too, am a lover of old Hollywood. I love old MGM musicals -- especially Gene Kelly, John Wayne, James Garner, Jimmy Stewart ... the list goes on.

I'm older than you, but my earliest memories are of watching "Maverick" on television, which actually premiered before I was born. My VERY first crush was on James Garner ... and I found out a few years ago that I'm related to him! (I'm probably a 19th cousin 7 gazillion and a half times removed, but I'm related.)

Yes, I've met him, both by accident and at celebratory town functions of Norman, OK (his birthplace) where he was grand marshal, but that was literally decades before I found out I was related.

God bless you, and take care,

Your mother's Memorial
My dear friend, I am glad that that small gesture of recognition for another much loved and missed mother touched your heart, it seemed like the most appropriate thing to do for a mother, and was my honor and pleasure. Please be assured that time will help you a lot, and just allow yourself to mourn when you feel like doing so or smile and laugh in moments when your heart feels lighter. All that is something divine, you see, and your mother, just like mine, had done what she could to prepare you for life and provide all you needed. Now it is your turn to give her something back by bravely living your life and showing her that she has marvelled when bringing you up. Right, I hope to read from you soon, you can also e-mail me when you need a pair of ears to listen to, meanwhile, I am sending you gentle ((((hugs)))), your friend xxx Edda
