Bertie Sue ROBERTS
Here is another story--I have made a list of subjects for stories that I remember.

It was holiday time and Berta was in the Armed Forces. She wanted to go home for the holiday. She was in Pennsylvania and there was a blizzard going on.

Berta finally found someone who was going up in a plane and he was willing to take Berta with. It was the last plane allowed to take off in a storm.

They got lost in the storm and flew around and around until they were running out of fuel. The pilot asked Berta if she would bail out. She answered that she would if he would.

Exiting the plane, Berta hit her leg on something and broke it.

When Berta landed in a field, she dragged herself to the fence and attached the parachute to the fence to make a tent.

The pilot also had bailed out of the plane. Someone picked him up and he was in a car to warm up. They also gave him some alcoholic beverage to warm him.

They had him on the radio bawling and squalling and begging everyone to go out in the storm and find Bertie Sue Roberts.

Berta was in the hospital for three years with her leg. The broken ends of the bone would not mesh together and heal. They just continued to rub against each other and caused Berta problems all her life.

This was during World War II which started when Pearl Harbor was attacked on Berta's birthday.

More later. You may wish to post these stories on Berta's record at familysearch.org.

RE: Albert Brantley Roberts 43808920
I do not remember many stories because it has been 20 years since I heard them.

I remember Berta talking about John B. often.

The name "Berta" comes from the time a child in Berta's grade school class (Berta also was a child at the time) snitched to the teacher about something Bertie Sue had done--it might have been about beating some boy up. The teacher replied, "Oh, I know Berta would never do something like that." Only her family called her "Berta." I take liberties.

Berta said their family was poor, but her parents loved each other and they loved their children. Berta was very spoiled as the baby of the family.

When Berta's Dad was dying, he apologized to her for dying on a weekday and causing her to make an extra trip home during the week. He said he should at least have had the courtesy to die on a week end.

Berta told many stories of her childhood days. She and her siblings went swimming often in a certain place. They always swam down to check and see if a certain water moccasin was asleep in his den. He always was. They did not worry about him as they (in error) knew water moccasins cannot bite under water.

Berta was teaching in a high school. She and another teacher had identical cars. Berta let students drive her car (I do not remember where to). One boy returned to school and told Berta how much he had enjoyed the radio in her car. Berta's car did not have a radio. This is how they learned that Berta's car key would also work in the other teacher's car. When that teacher learned about it, she traded cars the same day.

Berta had a financee. He went to India in the armed forces. When he returned, he was using tobacco products. Berta would not have him. She never married.

Berta told several stories about when she was in the Air Force (or was she in the Army?). I assume you know about when she bailed out of an airplane in a snow storm over Pennsylvania.

Later Gator

Best wishes and Happy Halloween

PS I did enjoy Dimple Dee. Thank you for thinking of me.

Seaborn Childs DeBary
The new picture of Seaborn as a young man is incorrect. This is actually a picture of his grandson. My mistake Will you please remove?

I tried, but I don't know how.
I'll ask my son this weekend.

Hello. Sorry to be pesky, but you may have answers.

Is the name of the spouse of Martha FULGHUM James Marscellus or James Madison? I have seen both, but I have not seen a source for either. THX

Hello. Thank you so much for all you have done.

I just saw a wonderful photo of Lanora at familysearch.org. She is probably in her 50s and is wearing a dark-colored dress with a white lace collar and a row of white buttons going down the front.

The site will not let me save the photo or I would send you a copy. If you would like a copy, you might ask relatives who has a copy of the photo.

Also, do you know any folks who were related to Eldridge Ezekiel Hornsby who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints like Berta was? I would like to confer with such a person.

I am thrilled to have met a person who actually knew Bertie Sue. Best wishes

I just wish to thank you for adding the photo of Albert.

So this is what Bertie Sue Robert's uncle looked like. She told me many stories about her family.

Best wishes
