RE: Jane McElwaney
Well I went to the Fayette Co.Historical Society tonight and the very nice gentleman there helped me look up Owen Leroy McElwaney (married to Elizabeth Meeks) and you were right. They had 10 children, the youngest listed as Phoebe born in 1859. Phoebe is not listed as being buried in Fayette Co. - unless her headstone had a married name on it? Did her death certificate list another last name?
I wrote down all the kids names and the little history of Owen Leroy, would you like that, or maybe you have it?
Let me know :), Jennifer

RE: Jane McElwaney
Well, I think that may change my chance of finding her! Really I am finding out the nice people who run the Fayette Historical society have a lot of records. Often full names help, so let me see if I can find her with the name Phoebe!

Jane McElwaney
I tried to find this grave, but was unable to.

Tonight I went to the Fayette Co Historical Society to research this. The very nice gentleman checked three cemetery references and an on line data base, but we were unable to find a Jane McElwaney.

McElwaney is definitely a county name and there are LOTS of people with this last name in the county history. Apparently the first McElwaney came from SC. They think he left SC with another last name, but when he got to Fayette County he was known as Owen Leroy McElwaney.

So, I am happy to keep trying to find this grave, but here are a few questions. 1) Could your ancestor have had another first name 2)How did you hear that she was buried in the Fayetteville City Cemetery?

The references that were checked were county wide, so a grave with that name has not been found in this county. Could she have been buried in another county?

Please let me know if I can help,
Jennifer Johnson
