My name is Bethany Crow. I am almost 19 years old and I live in Northwest Arkansas. I have recently started researching my family history. I have discovered that I am a direct descendant of the founder of the tiny town of Headlee, Indiana and that my great great grandpa (Newton Asbury Walker) was captured in the Battle of Vicksburg in the Civil War. My great grandpa (Jesse Walker) was a fairly well know moonshiner in Paulding County, Georgia. |
Most of my family lives in Georgia, Indiana, Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas. I haven't done much research on my dad's side of the family, but in my mom's (the one's in Georgia, Indiana, and Arkansas) the surnames of my ancestors include: Rodgers, Walker, Miller, Headlee, Haines, Fordyce, Blackmon, Griffen, Carney, and Terwilliger. You can find my family tree at http://www.myheritage.com/ftb/EN?ver=184.108.40.2068

I added a 2nd picture of Newton's grave marker to his memorial. My adopted daughter is a 2nd great granddaughter. She descends from Newt and Tempie's daughter Georgia. I added a memorial for Georgia and linked her to Newt and Tempie.
|MAC||Stephen Carney, Jr|
I'm a direct decendent of Stephen Carney, Jr. The line goes from him to Matthew Phenix Carney, then to Martin Carney, then Moses A Carney. My grandfather is Morris Carney, son of Moses A Carney and Ivy Joseph Carney. Morris Carney doesn't have a page on this site but his wife, Blanche Marie Carney, has one. Morris and Blanche had several sons and daughters. One of the sons, Orval Carney, is my father. Hope this helps!

Do you subscribe to Ancestry.com? If so a lot of the information can be found on there. I take it through Family Tree Maker which is the software that I use to compile all my ancestor's information and pictures.
I recently came back from a trip to Wahington Co., VA and found a ton of stuff. I have all the marriage books and some of the census records.
Which of John Wesley and Susan Holder Miller's kids do you descend from?

I was out at the Lawson Cemetery and took a few pictures I have a Ralph Crows military head stone but didn't see a stone for him and his wife. I could claim the photo request just for him and post his militay one if you like,and next time I am out there will check for one of them together.

Bethany, I was able to find Newton Walker and his 3 wives, Tempie, Nancy Ann and Alice. I added memorials for them and posted pictures of their grave stones as well. I was able to find them almost right way as they are in the old cemetery which is right behind the church. Good luck with your family history research!

Glad it was fixed...and glad the memorial in the correct place. It was the photographer volunteer that recognized the number of the plot being for the "other" Vet cemetery here.
|Sandy Adams||RE: James Turner|
Bethany, You are so welcome! I will see if I can locate Newton and take pictures. Also if a memorial isn't listed it doesn't mean the marker isn't there or is damaged. It may be that no one has added all the records for that cemetery. If I find him I will also take of pictures and post for his wife and any others that may be related as well. Good luck in your family tree research.

No worries Bethany, It is a mistake that many people make. The National Cemetery is almost completely full so about 10 years ago the state of Missouri built a Missouri Veterans Cemetery for our soldiers to be buried in. I've posted the photo of his stone.
