You are welcome. I go to the cemetery often, If and when there is a grave marker placed i will remove the flower photo and add the marker. I will be happy to send it to you.

RE: Gisssendaner Photos
Thank you, Elaine! I am researching my dad's family tree because his mom, Dora Biggers, died after he was born and we have no information on his family. Dora's death certificate confirms that Mary Lillian Gissendaner and A.J. Biggers were her parents. I guess that would make Mary my great grandmother. Honestly, any photos of the Gissendaner family would be a wonderful gift to give my dad. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for including photos of the Gissendaner family on this website. Do you happen to have any of Mary Lillian Gissendaner (later became Biggers)?

We are related.
From my research I show Suzane Catherine Huckaby is my Great Great Grandmother and Grandfather Daughter.

Harriet Ellsworth and Jesse Jackson Huckaby may be her parents.

Hi Elaine -
You are so welcome! I know you will take good care of them. Glad that I had Mary's death certificate to contribute.
Have a good one! Judi

RE: Annie Gissendaner #107861233
They don't remove markers from Greenwood - although they do sometimes sink and disappear on their own. I've found dozens of those, but it's always based upon the cemetery file stating there is a marker there. If you are absolutely certain that a marker was placed for her, I can probe the area and see if it's sunken. Otherwise, based upon what I know about the cemetery, she likely never had one. They did use cypress markers for a brief period, and if she had one of those, it's gone. There are only two left in the entire cemetery, and most were destroyed by fire.

RE: Annie Gissendaner #107861233
I'll be happy to transfer her to you, sorry, but I'm not related.

Here is what I deduce about her burial. She is not in Greenwood's records. I am using a book compiled by the Central Florida Genealogy Society from 2000/2001. They combed the rows and files in the office. Even burials without markers are in the book, taken from the files. Annie is not in the book, and likely not in their files. This is unusual for Greenwood, but not unheard of for back in those days.

The Carey Hand Funeral Home records are available online at That is where I found her burial record and notation of being buried at Greenwood in the Bennett lot of Section A, lot 37. Lula E Bennet is listed in the cemetery book as being the owner of the lot, so that matches up. Also buried there are Susan H and A. Bullard. The lot was purchased March 3, 1905.

At least three findagrave photographers have walked the rows of section A, including myself, so I can say with confidence that her grave is unmarked.
