Lavancy Rimes/Rhymes Carter
Hello,
I am a descendant of Lavancy Rimes Carter, daughter of my grt grt grandmother, who was also my grt grt grt grandmother, Ellen Rimes, wife of Redding of Clay/Calhoun Co., GA.
Gramma Ellen left GA with 3 'old maid daughters' and came to Ashford, AL to be near two other daughters. One was my grt grandmother, Margaret R. Jones of Cottonwood, AL.
They came in late 1880's and I believe my Margaret was either ill or expecting a child/children. She is b. in Salem Cem. near Edison, GA and at her feet are two infants graves.
Aft Marg. died, one of her 'old maid sisters' who came with my Ellen, Margil Lavinia Rimes, married my greatgrandfather, James Robert Jones. One of her sisters married your Samuel F. Carter. And the last, Ann, never married.
I enjoyed finding out abt your Samuel, before Vancy married him. You do not have another: Ollie G. Carter, the youngest son, who left AL for LA, then OR and in 1940 was in Long Beach, CA.
Although, this is not my line, I did run across this great information, when I was looking for Sam's 1st wife's info. Just to let you know I enjoyed all you wrote, but, wanted to add the youngest son for S.F. & Margaret. Saw him in the 1900 Census. Followed him to CA.
Betty Jones Nesmith (thought perhaps S.F. was a relative of Pres. Jimmy Carter, that's why I was searching.) bnesmith4247@hotmail.com

RE: Carters/Moodys of Alabama
Pam, I found my "niche". I can be as "nosey" as I want to be without getting into too much trouble and if it helps others along the way..that is an added bonus!
