I discovered Find A Grave while doing genealogy research and have been promoting it ever since. I think it is a great way to remember family, friends, classmates, coworkers, and many others that have passed on. |
My genealogy blog listed below was a place to record a large amount of material left by an aunt and my grandmother. I also added more current obituaries of people from that area. It is called Butternut Valley Family History. Please find the URL below.
THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

You are more than welcome. There has been recent vandalism in the cemetery. Last week someone knocked over many large stones and took the large marble balls off the tops of them and threw them around. My great and great great grandparents are buried in that cemetery so i went to check on my graves, figuring while i was there i would see if any one needed photos from that cemetery. I am sorry I could not find Clare for you. I searched all over. There are alot of old stones that are no longer readable so he could have been one of those. but i had no idea where to look. In the lot photo with the parents in front and the large Gregory stone in back, if you look to the right way behind the Gregory stone, that is their sons with the flag. Good luck in your research. Barb
