Thomas Postell PELOT, is a Grand-son of Rev. John Francis PELOT. SEE.. http://sciway3.net/clark/jasper/Pelot.htm ..
He died victorious on the quarter-deck of the U.S. Steamer Water Witch, captured in Ossabaw Sound by a Naval boat expedition under his command June 2nd 1864.... Per the book, The Confederate Navy - The Ships, Men and Organization, 1861-1865, Naval Institute Press, page 161.
The second expedition was launched from Savannah on the afternoon of May 31, 1864. Seven boats containing a total of fifteen officers and 117 sailors and Marines from the Savannah Squadron slipped down river and tied up at Battery Beaulieu on the Vernon River above Ossabaw Sound. After waiting for two days for a federal ship to come within striking distance, an attack against the USS Water Witch got under way at 8 p.m., June 2nd. Seven boats in two columns silently made their way into the sound. The Water Witch was lying at anchor about 3 miles from the mouth of Little Ogeechee River. The two columns of boats slipped up to the ship, one on each side. When about 30 yards away, a voice hailed them through the darkness. Lieutenant Thomas P. Pelot, Commander of the expedition shouted "Rebels! Rebels!, Board her!".
With that, the attacking craft surged forward and led by Lt. Pelot, the rebels boarders scrambled from their boats to the bulwarks of the Water Witch.
Although the Confederates caught the ship by surprise, they soon lost their advantage when they became hung up in anti-boarding nets strung above her sides. As the boarders hacked their way through the nets, the ships crew had time to mount a defense. Small arms fire took a toll among the attackers but they soon managed to cut the netting down and gained the deck. The Confederates rushed the defenders and a bloody melee followed. Pelot was killed but his men subdued the crew of the Water Witch in less than ten minutes. A fine side-wheel gunboat had been added to the CS Navy

 | Transfer Request Thank you for specifying your relationship to Elizabeth Ann (MacDonnell) Reilly as a third cousin. This relationship does not qualify in the Findagrave.com guidelines for making a transfer. However, I will be glad to make any family links to her parents that you provide with the memorial numbers and locations. The link to her husband has already been made. If you have additional information that you think would be helpful, such as date and place of birth, please feel free to use the edit tab on the memorial to send the additional information. If you know that a "family tree" has been submitted to www.rootsweb.com or www.ancestry.com, I would be interested in viewing that information. Thanks in advance for sharing whatever information you have.

 | George J MacDonell Transfers are done in the transfer link. When requesting a transfer, please include your relationship to indicate how closely you are related to the individual. Check the www.findagrave.com guidelines for relationships considered close enough to request a transfer. If the relationship is not close enough, the Findagrave.com volunteer is usually glad to add your additional information when it is relevant, make family links if the memorial numbers are included, or do additional research to help answer your questions. If a memorial is recent and the obituary left out the date of birth or the age, the volunteer has to wait until the Social Security Death Index information becomes available in order to enter that information from public records.
