My name is John Swift, born 4-10-40 in Hendricks County, Indiana. My interest in genealogy has stretched over a forty-five year period with a focus on finding my G-G-G Grnadfather's pioneer graveyard in Marion County, Indiana. My search came to pass in 2009 when we found it at 2400 West Forty-second street, Wynnedale, a subburb of Indianapolis. It is in the corner of a small town park called Sleepy Hollow where last Labor Day we placed VFW markers for Thomas E. Swift (War of 1812) and his son, George W. Swift (Civil War) The Indiana Sons of Civil War Soldiers came in costome and re-dedicated the site. If you visit their web site you can find photos etc.
Thomas Swift moved his family to Indy from Watauga County, NC and I would now like to find his father's grave site, Elias 1760-1834 married to Lucy 1763-1823.

Hey Again! Very impressed by your work to find, document, and memorialize Swift cemetery in Indiana. Thank you so much! I haven't traced Thomas' line yet so this is a big help and very encouraging to see others going above and beyond to document the Swift family history. I am a descendent of Samuel, Thomas' older brother.

Hey John! Sorry for the late reply. So nice to talk to a Swift relative. It appears you are a distant cousin. My Mother is a Swift by birth. You are the first I've met on Find A Grave. It took me a long long time to find Swift Cemetery as well (almost a year). Glad you found it. I will try to get the listing updated with additional info if you haven't already.

As far as who deeded the land...according to a History of Watauga County NC by John Preston with sketches of Prominent Families the land was deeded for Cove Creek Baptist church and the surrounding land by Samuel Swift (Elias' Son). This is the only info I've found concerning this and have no other findings to support it. I have seen some Swift trees that claim that Elias is buried there also but again I have no factual info to back this. If so he and his family are in unmarked graves.

I hope to travel back to Swift Cemetery sometime soon so that I can get proper photos and listings of all those in that Cemetery.

If you have Family tree software, I would love to share GEDCOM files if you are open to that. I love getting new info from others in additon to sanity checking my own. I happily share any info I have. In addition, please check out all my Swift postings and my Swift virtual cemetery. Feel free to use any memorial photos you find.

Take Care,
-Gary
