Julia Severson's Memorial
KatheR - Will you attach Julia Severson's obituary to her memorial? Thanks. - Bonnie (Rose) Jackson, her GGGranddaughter. It reads: Anoka Union, Anoka County, Minnesota—27 Jun 1928 (word processed exactly as it appeared in the newspaper)

FORMER HAM LAKE RESIDENT PASSES AWAY

Mrs. Julia Severson died June 16th, aged 73 years and 3 days. Julia Swenson was born in North Trandjen, Town of Sparbo, Norway, June 13, 1855, and came to America when sixteen years of age, in 1871. In 1876 she was married to Thomas Severson and eleven children came to bless the union, and eight survived her. The three who passed on died in infancy. Of the surviving children, all were at the funeral except Mrs. Wm. Knibbe of Salt Lake City, Utah, who was unable to come because of illness in the family. The children are: Samuel, Pompeys Pillar, Mont.; Alfred, Minneapolis; Thomas, Henning, Minn.; Mrs. Jos. Smith, Minneapolis; Christ, Grasston; Ole, Constance; Elmer, Elmhurst, Ill.; and Mrs. Wm. Knibbe, Salt Lake City. There are also twenty-six grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. O. S. Johnson, and one brother, J. O. Smith of Henning, Minn. Mr. Severson died 32 years ago and Mrs. Severson was left with eight children, the oldest 19 and the youngest ten months.
Mrs. Severson had been a member of Glencary church, and lived in Ham Lake and Grow for forty-five years. She was known as a woman of kindly heart, a good neighbor and a conscientious devout mother.
Funeral services wehe held at the mortuary in Minneapolis and at Glencary church, and interment was in the Glencary cemetery beside her husband. Rev. A. S. Berg preached the funeral sermon and the floral tributes were beautiful and most lavish. The pall bearers were P. Palm, John Ness, Martin Nelson, Axel Magnuson, Walter Smith and Peter Olson.

Thomas Severson's Grave
KatheR - I believe the picture you posted of Thomas Severson's grave is the one I took in April 2012 at Glen Cary Lutheran Cemetery in Ham Lake, MN. Since a tree had destroyed the name marker, I can't be certain it is his grave, but the information for his wife Julia Smith is accurate. Thomas's stone says 1852-1895. Julia's stone says 1855-1928. The graves are near Ole Severson, their son. Here's some information identifying Thomas Severson's birth and death. The 1880 Fed. Census says his birth is abt. 1850 Norway. The 1885 MN Census says abt. 1849 Norway. The 1895 MN Census says abt. 1852 Norway. In the probate materials for Thomas Severson's estate, filed 20 Jan 1899, an attached newspaper notice dated 20 Jan 1899 identifies Thomas Severson's death as 9 Jan 1896. Although most people on Ancestry.com identify Thomas Severson's birthdate as 23 Jan 1849, how do we know that? I haven't been able to find anything so far documenting his birthdate or when he immigrated to the United States from Norway. Have you? - Bonnie (Rose) Jackson, his GGGranddaughter

Vandergon
Kathe, I may have to wait until warmer weather to get your Vandergon photos. I was out looking this am and found quite a few Vandergon stones, but not the ones you are looking for. The snow is kind of crusty and many of the "ground level" stones are hidden. As soon as the weather permits, I will go take another look.

RE: date change
Hi Joanne,

I didn't add the memorial information for Jane B. Schoer, I only took the photo. Sorry that I can't change it for you. The correct info is in the photo.

I believe you knew my grandmother, Josephine Johns. It's good to see your name and I hope you are well.

Take care,
Lynette Roper (Loretta's daughter)
