Bio Photo "I salute that finer, larger world across the generations and maybe someone out on the vista may look back and appreciate an ancestral salutation". H.G. Wells

I enjoy documenting my ancestors (many early Quakers) into the digital age. I have lots of old family photos that I am adding as I find each person. (Please be kind and mention my name as the source of these photos and stories, if you use them.) My main family names include: Hoag, Wood, Dwelle, Gifford, Scofield, Tefft, Macklin, Peck, Dodd, Vanderwerker, Davis and on...

Correct pronunciation of the Hoag name
I wanted to express my appreciation and admiration for the John Hoag memorial, contained history I hadn't been familiar with and is nice not to have look back with a blush at the opinions and acts of an ancestor. And, how to pronounce the name? Thank you, cousin.

Edward William Briggs, Jr.
Hi Caroline,

I would like to correct your entry on Dr. Edward William Briggs, Jr. His wife is Evelyn Graves, 1907-2005, daughter of Mark Graves and Clarabelle Gale. Edward William Briggs Jr. is my husband's maternal grandfather.

Aaron Martin
Caroline you wrote the following (edit) message: "Where did you find this cemetery record? I don't think he is the son of Moses Martin (my 4th GGF) in this cemetery... Moses married Lydia Moore, and had a son named Aaron born in 1767, died 1842... Their daughter Tryphena Martin said her GF was Ephraim Moore."
- I must say I am unsure where the information came from (added almost 5 years back) - possibly taken from some old files that I have on the Martin family particular of Adam Martin (1739-1818). Also, unsure if this came from a internet search at that time...I am open to your correction, but really want to be sure. Thank you.

Mass Vital Records
Thanks! I found that I had two sources and that the one that agreed with your dates was also from the Mass Vital Records.

Stephen Lapham and Rachel
I noticed that the birth and death dates that you have on these memorials is slightly different from what I found on the Internet. Not saying that I always agree with what I find on the Internet! Just wondering if you could share your source with me...much appreciated!
Thanks, Ginni

Rosetta Lapham Haviland
Rosetta and David were my great-great grandparents! Their daughter Hannah married George Bowen Eddy. George and Hannah had nine children including Charles Roger Eddy who married Rosetta's sister's granddaughter, Rachel Sisson! Rachel had been living in Collins Center, NY and had married a man named William Munger. He died, leaving her a widow with a young son to raise and apparently she was accompanied back to Queensbury to meet her second cousin, Charles Roger Eddy. I guess there were a lot of marriages of conveniences in those days as there was no Social Security and very few people had life insurance. I have a list of other family members who were buried in the Old Quaker Burying ground and am thinking of creating memorials for them...Thanks for taking care of Rosetta! Ginni Combs

I agree. I've loved his story since I was a kid.

Hi, Caroline,

Sorry for the delay on updating the bio, had some personal things going on and it slipped away from me for a bit. Should be good now.
