Bio Photo "I salute that finer, larger world across the generations and maybe someone out on the vista may look back and appreciate an ancestral salutation". H.G. Wells

I enjoy documenting my ancestors (many early New England Quakers) into the digital age. I have lots of old family photos that I am adding as I find each person. (Please be kind and mention my name as the source of these photos and stories, if you use them.) My main family names include: Hoag, Wood, Dwelle, Gifford, Scofield, Tefft, Macklin, Peck, Dodd, Vanderwerker, Davis and on...

Isaac Hoag
Hi Carol,

Received our message on Isaac Hoag, my Find A Grave Memorial #146246363, I used the Cemetery Records, The Town of Easton, Washington County, New York purchased from the Washington County Historical Society. There are twenty three Hoags' buried in the Easton Rural-Quaker Cemetery, including two Isaac Hoags',, the one I created, and the other is Isaac Hoag; born 14 August 1824, died 11 Jan 1902, Section 1, Row 3, m Elizabeth A ______

Hope this helps

Other person says: The Elizabeth you have mentioned is married to Aaron Martin (1768-1842) and not Aaron (1766-1829)

Charles Chenu Picture
Caroline - I'm interested about how you came to have the picture of Charles Chenu with his son and daughter? I have what I thought was the original that hung in my grand mothers bedroom. Always interested in finding related family I didn't know anything about Charles Chenu a great grand son.

Elizabeth Hoover Duff
I believe that Elizabeth Hoover Duff was the daughter of William Edward Hoover and Julia Gertrude Hough Hoover, not the daughter of William Hoover and Elizabeth Huff Hoover. First, she was born ca. 1881 or 1882 and that would have been much too late for her to be the daughter of Elizabeth who was born ca. 1814. Elizabeth would have been about 67!

The 1900 Federal Census lists William E Hoover and Julia G Hoover with one daughter Elizabeth, born Sept. 1881. This William E Hoover is the son of William Hoover and Elizabeth Huff Hoover. That would make Elizabeth the granddaughter of William and Elizabeth Huff, not the daughter.

Elizabeth is also found on the 1930 census in D.C. with her husband John A Duff and two children Edward H and Jean E.

Thanks for catching the error. Her burial is unknown - I apparently put her in Bacon Hill and then forgot to mark her unknown. An interesting ancestor.

Sarah Martin
You mentioned a duplicate for Sarah Martin, where is this? In the same cemetery. Thank you.

Correct pronunciation of the Hoag name
I wanted to express my appreciation and admiration for the John Hoag memorial, contained history I hadn't been familiar with and is nice not to have look back with a blush at the opinions and acts of an ancestor. And, how to pronounce the name? Thank you, cousin.

Edward William Briggs, Jr.
Hi Caroline,

I would like to correct your entry on Dr. Edward William Briggs, Jr. His wife is Evelyn Graves, 1907-2005, daughter of Mark Graves and Clarabelle Gale. Edward William Briggs Jr. is my husband's maternal grandfather.

Aaron Martin
Caroline you wrote the following (edit) message: "Where did you find this cemetery record? I don't think he is the son of Moses Martin (my 4th GGF) in this cemetery... Moses married Lydia Moore, and had a son named Aaron born in 1767, died 1842... Their daughter Tryphena Martin said her GF was Ephraim Moore."
- I must say I am unsure where the information came from (added almost 5 years back) - possibly taken from some old files that I have on the Martin family particular of Adam Martin (1739-1818). Also, unsure if this came from a internet search at that time...I am open to your correction, but really want to be sure. Thank you.
