I started researching my family's history after my mother, Welaunee Pittman Brooks, passed away in 2006. My mother was always interested in genealogy but unfortunately she did not have much success in her research. I wish that she were still here so that I could show her all the amazing things that I have found out about our family's heritage.|
At this point in time I am only creating and managing memorials for family members. I would prefer not to transfer memorials but I will consider a request from an immediate family member. I am happy to hear from anyone who thinks they may be related to me, and I will be happy to add additional information as well as family links for memorials.

This relates to the status of the cemetery in Files Valley, TX. In the 1970s, a board was established to oversee maintenance of the cemetery. All of the board members are now deceased. In order to insure some level of maintenance going forward, a new board should be established. A meeting seems necessary to reestablish the board and the first group to make contact with, before going to the general population of the community, in my opinion, should be those FindAGrave Contributors who have shown an interest and demonstrated some effort to preserve the memory of those interred there. If you have experience in managing small cemeteries and/or the interest to participate in this process, please contact me via email at email@example.com.
Regards and thanks for all your work for FindAGrave.

The plastic flowers to the left of Frank's Niche actually placed on the niche to the left of his. His flower receptacle mount is in the lower right of his niche.
You're Welcome, I wrote in the caption his grave is. unmarked, it's easy to miss the captions but that is reason for the distance shot to show there is no marker next to her's.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know about our Missouri Death Certificates online and I use them all the time. It is a wondeful resource I wish other states would adopt!

I will get the article to you in a day or two. Also, the photo of Albert's grave has just been added to his memorial. I checked the dates and they are correct.

Hi Darlene, Like you, I have many questions about Albert and Alta. I don't have absolute proof that Albert was Alta's husband, but from the research I did he was the only McMasters that could be.
I got his dates from a cemetery roster of Rice cemetery from 1974. I have started photographing the graves there and hoped to come across his the last time I was there so I could check the dates, but didn't. I live about an hour away, my dad's side of the family all came from Dade County.
I have a story about Alta that her family may not know. My grandfather recorded some stories years ago about deaths he witnessed in Dadeville as a child. By searching newpaper records I discovered one of them is about Alta. Tell her granddaughters she was a strong and courageous woman.
My grandfather, age 9, and his brother had been riding their bikes when they saw who I know now was Alta and a man struggling on a front porch. They heard a shot and saw the man fall to the ground in the yard. She immediately took her children out the back door and gave herself up to the constable. She was jailed at Greenfield from July 23, 1914 until December 3, 1914 without bond. She plead guilty of manslaughter in the 2nd degree, punishment 5 years in penitentiary, paroled and placed in charge and custody of George Brown. Is he her father or brother?
This part not in the newspaper is from my grandfather. He says some young men in the community had been harrassing Alta, even coming into her home uninvited. She had talked to the justice of the peace about the problem and he had given her a gun to protect herself and her children. James Miller, the man that she shot and killed, was his son.
A friend with James that day said they had just asked for a drink of water, but James went in the house for a couple of minutes. When they came out Alta had the gun and James joked and laughed at her, saying she was bluffing.
My grandfather tells two other stories, I looked those articles up too. Alta was the only one jailed for murder, the only woman involved also. It still makes me mad to think she was jailed all those months with her children being cared for by others. You'd think the wheels of justice could have turned faster! I have no doubt she was afraid for herself and her children and that she had been harassed a number of times before.
My copy of the newspaper article from microfilm is in tiny letters and hard to read. I could enlarge it and have my husband scan it to send to you if you would like. I also hope to get back to Rice Cemetery soon. We've had a record hot summer and are finally getting rain with cooler weather here is southwest Missouri!
