| Bio and Links | I live in Berea, KY, Madison County where Berea College thrives. This county has a long, long history in Kentucky. Eastern Kentucky University is in Richmond, the County Seat. Boonesborough is on the Kentucky River to the north. The famous Kit Carson's birth site is near Richmond. I am a retired Human Resources Mgr. and former teacher, and coach. My retirement offered me the opportunity to dig deeper into history as it relates to family. A very few surnames are offered here: Tudor,Long, Graves, Fields, Conn, Kennedy, Faulkner, Carpenter,Reid, and hundreds more. I truly thank those who have shared by their listings and photos on Find A Grave.

 | White/Tudors in Richmond Cemetery. Hi! Welcome to F.A.G. & you are correct - this area is historical and beautiful! I was shooting photo requests when I came across the Tudors and took the photos. I have made the updates. Marcie has some WHITE relatives and your research may be useful to her. She can link Lucinda to Schuyler Greening and add the marriage year for you. Did Schuyler adopt Mary? You can give her additional info. such as that. There is not a memorial for Jefferson yet. You might consider setting one up. I am willing to transfer my TUDORs to you. | | | Wilma Doyle
 | RE: Daniel Shumate Boy, you talk about a can of worms!..Yes, I did order the book, and have tried to read it with just my line, and of course got side tracked, because I love history. I was so shocked when I began this process that the Shumates were French Huguenots. I had no clue. Of all the family names that I am researching, this has been my biggest challenge. And I still do not have it finished, as Riley said when you get to Kentucky: Thomas, Thomas, Berryman, & Berry(man) Their trail is very cold, may be by their design...even my grandfather, Oney Theodore Shumate disappeared to some extent, after my grandmother died, he became a lost soul and drank, even tho he had sons & daughters, grandchildren, living. He died alone and ashamed, not wanting his family to know about his fall from grace. Buried in pauper's grave, I only found him 2 yrs ago, thru his obit in Maysville, Ky. Although I never really found him, the graveyard washed away during two great floods of the Ohio River.
Do you belong to Ancestry.com? My Shumates were Bourbon Co., Fleming Co., Nicholas Co., Harrison Co., Kentucky. Wilma | | | Wilma Doyle
 | Daniel Shumate Thank you, Gerald for headstone photo of Daniel Shumate. I live in Md., but visited my hometown, Paris, Ky., in June of this year. However, I did not have time to go to Paint Lick, was busy in Fleming Co., going to Hickerson Graveyard in the mountains, Boy! was that an adventure, but successful. Last time I was there was in 1999, and now it has almost vanished into the earth. Thanks for the bio with pic. Wilma Doyle Keely | | | RonMac
 | Georgia Shumate Hello, I found out Georgia is buried with the rest of the Shumates, but without a stone. I took a photo of their family plot and you can see the empty spot among their graves wheres shes buried. There is another Shumate which I have listed (Maria Shumate) that shares a headstone with the Hiram Young family thats right next to the Shumate plot. Hiram Young was a former slave who owned his own wagon building business here in Independence (his memorial has a bio). If the Shumates had slaves theres a chance Maria might have been one. If you add Georgia's memorial I can add the photo. RonAdded by RonMac on Jul 26, 2010 3:03 PM | | | RonMac
