My interest in genealogy began in 1989, when I commissioned a drawing as a memorial to my great aunt, Blanche Slocum Mason. The artist of whom the work was commissioned was interested in history and ethnology and said he was "familiar with the Slocums of New York".|
Tracing the family back a few generations through oral history and excursions to gravesites provided a firm base, upon which research at various state libraries, and ultimately, the internet has built exponentially.
Most of the direct lineal family are from New York State (particularly Dutchess, Ulster and Putnam Counties) and Rhode Island, with some in Massachusetts. Surnames include: Mason; Slocum; Decker; Ollivet; Sprague; Ellsworth; Tripp; Brown and Almy.
As an Episcopalian who spent several years in Connecticut, another area of interest and research is that of the fate of the dissenters (Baptists, Anglicans and others forced out by religious persecution at the hands of the state religion of Congregationalism).

|Eric Orner||RE: John Henry Mason & Evaline Mason|
I wish I could provide more details on the photos of the Masons but only the names of the people in the photos were written on them. My mother gave them to me and she did not know the details either but she told me years ago that she remembered visiting Henry and Eva when she was very young so they could have been taken by her father Raymond DeVoe in the late 1920's but they could be older. Everyone that was around then is gone now so there's no way to know for sure. Its pure luck that even these photos survived and we were able to connect them with these memorials. I get much more out of the memorials when there's photo attached so I'm always glad to share whatever I can find. Thanks for putting together the Masons, all I had was a few names with no documentation.
|Joe Santacroce||Photo Request - Patmor in Poplar Grove|
I have photos (and there are some online here as well) of the Patmors Poplar Grove - Phillipsport. We are in the process of updating the records and have posted a new list (incomplete but we are working on it at poplargrovecemetery.com).
After rechecking here if you still need something let me know. We are out there frequently and I have been photographing each plot one by one as we update the records.
|ElizaGrace||RE: Thank you|
Just realized I put the picture of Hattie Belle Baxter in as a grave picture rather than a picture of her. I deleted it and put it in properly so you can resubmit your request for a grave stone picture.
I'll be in contact with you.

|Linda Burton Kochanov||Anna Ritchie|
Hey...I'm the one that posted the pictures for the Ritchies..but I'm beginning to think it's the wrong Anna Ritchie. Without dates it's hard to find. If it's the wrong picture for her let me know and I will delete...

|karen kelly||Addie Slocum|
I added an Addie F Slocum to the Cong Kent Cem. Just thought you would want to know.
|karen kelly||RE: Eliza Slocum|
ok, there was only 1 small plot of Slocums. No others that I could find in the entire cemetery.
Message me if you need me to look elsewhere for her.
|karen kelly||Eliza Slocum|
Is Eliza Slocum related to the other Slocum's in the Cong. Kent Cemetery? I found others however Eliza was not there. I photographed the entire cemetery today and did not see her.
|TomW||RE: Thank you!|
You are most welcome. That headstone was difficult to photograph, but I think the closeup is pretty clear. I photographed the entire cemetery this past summer, so had the photos on my laptop.
