Thank you very much Carol for transferring the memorials to me I very much appreciate it.
|Gail Ellen King||We're cousins!|
Do I know you? Nettie Oakes was my great grandmother. Her daughter, Jeanie Leanell (Oakes) Shippee was my maternal grandmother (never met her). I spent many, many Sundays "up home" on the Oakes farm visiting "Uncliff" and "Aunt Ad" (my grand uncle and aunt). I have lots and lots of info to add to our family tree and connections to the Shippees born in Readsboro and buried in South Hill Cemetery.

Carol, Thank you so much for your response~ I guess this would make us distant cousins, right? By some absolute serendipity, my father, who is in no way descended from the Bangs/Oaks line, with his second wife Jane, many years ago purchased the old Hammond Hill one-room schoolhouse in Brownsville VT (near Windsor) as a second home. The school had been remodeled in the early 1800's to become a wonderful little home. My father passed away in 2009, and my stepbrothers and I are now co-owners of the house, offering it for rental as a vacation cottage most of the year. I wonder if there is ANY chance this school was attended by the Bangs and Oaks ancestors on my mother's side~ what kind of co-incidence would THAT be??? I thought perhaps you might know..
Here's the house.
As I delve deeper into the history of our family tree, I find I am fascinated by the histories of our forbears in Massachusetts and Vermont. I look forward to continuing this ever-widening journey of discovery. Thank you again for your response.

Thanks for the fast response, Carol.
It's so time consuming; I've pursued and then abandoned the effort several times~ but I remain absolutely fascinated by the family history. As more becomes available for it, I expect to continue the research. This trip with my Mom is just one of many steps in a long journey!
Ironically, my FATHER~ a whole different, Swedish line of ancestry~ and his second wife, to whom I am completely unrelated, many years ago bought the refurbished original one-room school in Windsor, Vermont as a second home. I now own it with my two step-brothers and we rent it as a vacation cottage. I'm seeing that many of the Bangs and Oakes ancestors stayed in that area; I wonder if any of them had anything to do with this school? Wouldn't THAT be a small world?
I'd love to have a history-adventure, based from there one day also.
Here's the cottage today
I wish you all the best in your own research.

I am a direct descendant of Justus Bangs through the Bangs/Glynch line. I am seeking any information, photos and documents pertaining to our family history. I'm planning a trip to Wauconda this May (2014) with my mother~ Jean Hole Peterson, daughter of Lela Glynch Hole~ to walk the footsteps of our ancestors and visit some of our family's historical sites. Would be most grateful for any information that might help make this trip a successful and interesting one.
Curious, are you related to the Phelps that you have monuments for? I am. Thanks for having them listed. TomK

Thanks for that info. (Am impressed that my husband actually remembered a name, lol, but he left New England 50 yrs. ago and just blocked it all out.) I'd like to leave a little Tisdale history for the next generation, but it's a tough one!
