RE: Utley Surname
Hi Cherie,

Thanks for your note...no, I am descended from the "northern" branch of Utleys who basically moved from Massachusetts in the 1640's west through CT, NY, and points west. There were some who turned south to VA and the Carolinas, that's the ancestors of the ones in Wake/Johnston.

Glad to collaborate, drop me an e-mail if I can help in any of your research.

All my best,
Mark

RE: Howdy!
LOL. No on the French class. Dad wanted it spelled and pronounced like Shari Lewis. Mom wanted spelled and pronounced French so they messed me up and spelled it French and pronounced it like Shari Lewis. In college, two Cheries on my floor (different spellings) and I got out yearbooks and found about 16 ways to spell it. That's when I said, "Unless you're writing me a check, you can spell it any way you want." Pronunciation: I've been called Cherry, Shirley, Sharon, Siri and even Charlie. Am sure you've had lots of fun ;-/ with it, too

RE: Harnett Chapel Cemetery
If you click on Harnett Chapel Cemetery in Findagrave there's a "Map" tab toward the top left of the page. That map shows the exact location of the cemetery (you'll see the church across the street - I don't recall what the name is) which is near Purfoy Road and Rawls Church Road. Let me know if that helps. Note that the cemetery looks to be on someone's property and it's pretty overgrown but I was able to find it pretty easily.

RE: Harnett Chapel Cemetery
Hi Cherie - the map on the findagrave website indicates exactly where the cemetery is located. I was there a couple of years ago so it's possible that things have changed a bit. It's across the street from a church in a wooded area behind an abandoned house. While the cemetery is called "Harnett Chapel" that's not the name of the church across the streen and there doesn't appear to be any structures other than the house on the grounds. The cemetery is not kept up and is in an overgrown area. I have relatives a few generations back who are buried there. I'm curious, do you have relatives buried there? Dave
