|Doc Wilson||RE: Picture|
The photo came from his obituary, which is still online at Ancestry.com. If there a problem with it I can take it down . . . ?
|Doc Wilson||RE: Henry Black Sr's Tablet|
You are very welcome. I realize that Joy Riggers had already posted a photo of the entire panel where Henry's name is listed, but I thought a close-up would also be useful.
Do you happen to know what ship your grandfather was serving on when he died? I searched the register of ships lost during WWII online and there was nothing on 8 July 1944 that was sunk off the coast of France, so I'm assuming he was wounded during an attack on a ship that later made it back to port but in the meantime had died of his wounds and was buried at sea.
BTW, FWIW, all of my relatives who served survived the war, so I do not have the special attachment to those who are buried or memorialized at places like Brittany that people like you do, but I still have made it my mission to post everything I can about The Greatest Generation (and their fathers who died in WWI) and make sure that their pages on Find A Grave tell as complete a story as possible. If there is any way I can help you, let me know.
I left a couple of tokens on your father's page.
