Headstone reqeust for Sarah Stephens
My husband and I went for dinner in Idaho City the other night. We walked the cemetery looking for Sarah Stephens. We were unable to locate a headstone for her. The cemetery is in the forest and some stones are over gowned with weeds and the oldest part of the cemetery does not have makers because is caught fire at one time. But I have found a web page that said there should bea marker there for her. Next trip up, I'll walk it again.

RE: John A Howard
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Terri.

I get most of my information from the Cooper County Historical Society records. They have a high degree of accuracy, but obviously they aren't perfect. I imagine this started as a simple typo and went awry from there.

Normally, I recheck everything after visiting a cemetery, but since Jeff got there first, I didn't notice this error.

Thanks again for your help in getting it right.

My husband and I walked the entire Crites Cemetery yesterday. It is in deplorable condition. Totally overgrown and infested with snakes and ticks. We took photos of all stones we could find and free of debris and snakes.

I descend from the Crites and wanted to record all stones before they were completely destroyed. It seems I was too late for those you requested. None of them could be found. Although this cemetery is supposed to have perpetual care, it has not been cared for and will not last another 5 years. I have posted directions under the photo on the cemetery page if you would like to visit it.

I have all of the photos for Hillside cemetery on my computer. A few years ago, as I was transcribing the cemetery, I took photos of the monuments as I went along. Someday, I'll get them all on Find A Grave.
