RE: Myers families
Freddy,

Between my sister and I we have all 5 of the cemetery inscription books that were printed for Marion Co. and the only 2 cemeterie that are missing are Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery and Elmwood Cemetery. I do not believe that Hillcrest was establish early enough for Daniel to have been buried there in 1863, but I don't know about Elmwood. Daniel Jr. is buried in my families cemetery with his daughter Mary who was married to Enoch McClelland and there is a good chance that Daniel Sr. is also buried there because there are graves that old in that cemetery. Unfortunately there are also graves there that are unmarked or the headstones are to far gone to read.

I do not live in Illinois so I am unable to check on it for you. There is a genealogy society in Marion Co. that you might try contacting they are located in the Bryan-Bennett Library in Salem. The phone number is 618-548-7784; I have always found them to be very helpful. Last time I was there they were only regularly in the building on Wednesday afternoons so possibly you can catch someone tomorrow.

RE: Myers families
Hi Freddy
Larry is not related to the Myers I am, but not directly. The Myers and the McClelland's married in Marion Co., Illinois and I am a McClelland so I am a distant cousin to several Myers. I do not have the John Myers that you mention in my tree and the only Daniel I have is Daniel Wilson Myers who was born in Kentucky in 1831 and died in Illinois in 1898, but he is the father-in-law of a great grand uncle of mine so I have not researched his line back to find out who his parents are. Unless you are looking for Myers who ended up in Marion Co., Illinois I doubt I will be of any help to you.

RE: Priscilla Brown mar. Thomas Ashley

Possibly, but one note... on later marriage licenses the dads are always listed John Smith and the moms are always listed Jane Maiden... so it COULD be, but MAY NOT be that Pricilla was:

Pricilla (Brown) Ashley
was daughter of
Mr Brown and
Susannah (Short) Brown

Maaaybe, lol...
I've appreciated your imput
God bless.

RE: Thomas Ashley and Priscilla Brown

Hi,

I appreciate you asking and wish I could help more.
I think when you get this far back, one has to be
very careful and, yet, there is usually less material
with which to do so. I'll try my best to explain, hope
its clear, and let you take it from there, so to speak.

I found multiple researchers (7+) for this specific
Thomas Ashley (meaning his same birth and death
dates and place) with Priscilla Brown listed as his wife.
This family and their descendants move from Virginia
to Kentucky(NC) and then on to Missouri. I couldn't
find any proof of HOW they all thought she was his
wife. So I began hunting.

I was researching, although not in my personal tree,
backwards from Missouri and Illinois and ended up
in Kentucky(NC) and then in Virginia... to Thomas.

After more research, I did find a Virginia Marriages
record which simply stated:

Name: Thomas Ashley
Spouse: Pricilla Brown
Marriage Date: 20 Mar 1797
Marriage Location: Montgomery County, Virginia

This seems a small confirmation of all those other
researchers who claimed their antecedent Thomas
married one Priscilla Brown. So, I sent you a copy
of the statement of the marriage content. I was
amazed that all those researchers claimed that she
and Thomas were married and yet, not a single
one, had found the marriage record -- and not
a one listed a marriage date (some had estimates
in Virginia, some in another state).

Anyway, I was glad to have, perhaps found proof.
The record was from Ancestry and, sadly, didn't
include a record number or such specific. I don't
have access to an actual record (which I love, since
with it you find witnesses and judges names) but
instead found very generic source information as:
Dodd, Jordan. Virginia, Marriages, 1660-1800.
Provo, Utah. Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 1997.

Now, I searched this same database for what you
stated, when you asked me about Mrs. Booth, and
there IS another Virginia Marriages record for a
Thomas Ashley to "Ruth" also, in the same area of
Montgomery County, Virginia, as follows:

Name: Thomas Ashley
Spouse: Ruth
Marriage Date: 21 Aug 1797
Marriage Location: Montgomery County, Virginia

Since I can't see the original (as I said, arrrrrg!!!)
I can't visually confirm her last name was even
on the original record, nor what it appears to be.
The computer record appears as above.

Many online claim the Ruth was Ruth BOOTH, but
they have no further information for her or for
the Thomas that married her!!! :(

Literally, no birth dates nor places, no death dates
nor places, they have records that simply say,
"Thomas Ashley married Ruth Booth" 21 Aug 1797
in Montgomery County, VA... with no documents,
no other helpful information at all. Someone did
cite a source as being "Early Adventure on Western
Waters" but I've no idea what that means. Sorry.

I do understand that many records don't prove
anything, but those online who do have birth
and death dates for their Thomas Ashley... those
folks all -- and I do mean all -- link him with
Priscilla Brown... and the dates they give match
your Thomas Ashley memorial.

So, do what you think is best and most responsible.
If you have better access, perhaps you can find the
original records and see both Thomas' and see the
ages listed for them and their brides. This could be
what would stop an error -- if there is one... and
if you can, let me know?

Meanwhile, if I get a chance,I'll see if I can find any
differences between the Thomas who married Priscilla
and the Thomas who married Ruth. I had something
like this in my tree, but much later, and through census
records determined they were cousins about 30 miles
apart -- born same time, name the same name, married
the same time (to different men, of course) and then,
can you believe it, died about the same time. It took
me a LONG time to figure out which one belonged to
which uncle.

If this is your family, I wish you well.
Regardless, I thank you for your diligence and help.
Hope that answers what you were asking.

Regards.

Hi Freddy, I am looking to try and fulfill photo requests in the Allen county, Ky area and came across this listing. Do you have more specific directions like a GPS location? I'm not from Allen County. I've located sulphur creek on a map, but I can't seem to figure out which is the Burton Farm. Thank you for any help you can give me. -- Amy W.
