I've been actively researching my family genealogy for a little over seven years. What began as a hobby has gradually evolved into a passion! I truly enjoy learning about my ancestors; their names, occupations, where they lived, etc. |
Special thanks to findagrave volunteers who slog through overgrown cemeteries in all types of weather, searching for and photographing headstones of people they never knew for people they will never meet. May God bless you for your kindness!

Thank you for making the corrections on Minerva and Tomy Jr. I make a yearly trip here to visit Minerva's grave. Next year I will take as many pictures of headstones as I can.
Shackleford is also correct, and I know many that spell it that way. So I was only asking you to change the spelling on the ones that I had attached photos. Again, thank you.

Hi Mark I'm trying to figure out Nannies Parents. 1910 census has Her with John Clem, but it says they were both married twice. it also list 5 Hall kids as John Clems step kids, so that tells me that Nannie was married to a Hall before John Clem ? so Nannie 's maiden name is not Hall. the marriage of Nannie Hall & John Clem was 1909 in Harlan , but they also show Nannie Hall marrying a James Hall Jr. in 1902. Being you are a Hall ,I hope you can shed some light on this for me. My wifes step Grandmother ,Eing Thomas was Married to John Clem before She married my Wifes Grandfather Frank Price in Grays Knob after 1951 . Thanks Dan

Hi Mark,im hoping you can help me with the correct location of my g-grandfather's(aunt,uncle) burial location..I have them listed in Saylor Cemetery with photos that someone who found me through a genealogy site took for me(bless her!)...She told me they were buried in Saylor Cemetery and when i added them, she e-mailed me to say it was the wrong Saylor Cemetery..I haven't heard back from her with the correct one yet(by no means am i complaining,im very grateful she took the photos in the first place:) My question is do you know the different Saylor Cemeteries and do you know who might volunteer in the area that would be able to"hunt" them down for me? I plan on visiting the area in the next few weeks and would love to visit their graves...(My family members i am searching for,Letcher,Evelyn and William Letcher West, the only West names in the cemetery) Thanks for any and all help! Have a great day,Jodi

I just recently started researching my family and today discovered, Find A Grave. Many relatives on my my mother's side are from Harlan County, KY. My grandmother, Jane Jones Ellis, was the daughter of Thomas Jasper Jones and Sarah Hall Jones. Several things I have found indicate Jasper Jones is buried in Grays Knob cemetery, but he isn't listed. I believe Sarah Hall Jones (great grandmother) is probably also buried in Grays Knob - she died in 1910. She is the daughter of Frances Hall and Easter Cawood Hall, who are listed under your records. (Jasper Jones was married two more times after Sarah Hall died. In fact, he placed the younger children in a Louisville orphanage after her death.) In addition, my grandparents, Sam and Jane Ellis had a child, first born son, that died when he was six weeks old, Everett Ellis. His death certificate says he is buried in Grays Knob.
I do not know if Sarah Hall's grave is marked or if Everett Ellis's grave is marked. Everett Ellis, born 12/31/1916 and died on 2/10/1917.
Any information you might have would be appreciated. Thanks much,

Thanks (cousin?) Mark!!! Now if I can just figure out how to navigate this site!! lol... WoW
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mark, for taking the time and energy to track down Morris and Elizabeth (Derr) Penn. Your generosity has allowed me to put one more piece of my family puzzle together. I marvel how on this site strangers are willing to do that for one another.
I promise to pay it forward.
