Magdalena (Arnold) Long
Hi, Sally --

You and I are distant cousins. Magdalena's sister Catherine J. (Arnold) LaBorde was my ggg-grandmother.

On 2 Aug 2014 you added a memorial note to Philip Arnold's (Magdalena and Catherine's father) FindAGrave memorial #42390253, and said Magdalena was born in Lynn, Northampton County, PA. That's possible but unlikely; the Arnold family lived in Mahantango township, Northumberland County, PA, in 1800, 1807, and 1810.

In 1813 Mahantango twp, Northumberland Co, PA, became part of Union County, PA, and in 1816 Mahantango twp became extinct and was renamed Perry township. Today it makes up West Perry, Chapman and Union townships in Snyder County (which was made from half of Union County).

The Arnolds did not move, but lived on in the same place in Perry and Chapman townships, Union County, PA, until 1840.

So I believe that Magdalena was born in Northumberland County rather than Northampton. Philip Arnold (Magdalena and Catherine's father) was born in Mahantango township, Northumberland County, PA. It looks like Lynn, PA, is in Lehigh County not Northampton County. Both Northampton and Lehigh Counties are quite a distance east of Northumberland County. And Spinnerstown is in Bucks County not Lehigh County.

I would like to hear your comments, please. Do you have family records? I am willing to share with you.

Thank you,
Jan LaBorde Routh

RE: John Ralston
Thank you for the additional information. I'll make contact with the other contributor. John's tombstone at Sanborn Cemetery would be considered, I think, a "cenotaph". His first wife, Lorena (Yarger) Ralston, is buried in another section of the cemetery. Thanks again for writing.
