Although I was born and raised in Michigan, my roots are in North Carolina. My parents, grandparents on both sides, great grandparents on both sides, etc. were all born in N.C. as far as I know. My goal with FAG was to get as many of my relatives as I could entered so that any future generations will be able to find them. I think I've done as much as I can and I'm happy with the work I've done. I'll always love North Carolina and whenever I'm there it feels like home. I may be a Michigander but my heart belongs to the hills!

Michael Cook Sr. decendant
Hi, I too am working on my family genealogy for my sons to hand down to their family. Michael Cook Sr. is also my g.g.g.g.grandfather. His son Adam Cook Jr. was my g.g.g.grandfather etc. This has been a journey a long one but I have enjoyed all of the interesting "findings". LOL This genealogy is on my mother's side and I almost finished. Next to start with my Dad. Nice to "meet" you!!

RE: Linking
Sherry- I just realized that I had already transferred to Nancy the memorials I created at the larger Pitts Cemetery and I believe that you created the ones at the smaller so the two of you should be able to do all the linking.
ps Find A Grave appears to still be having some site problems and has not posted overall cemetery photos in over a week. Hopefully they will appear soon.

RE: Linking
Given that you two are relatives, I prefer to transfer the memorials. Should i transfer to you or to Nancy?

Pitts Cemeteries
Hi Sherry- I'm very glad you were able to help Chet find this cemetery. I only knew of an approximate place. I am descended from the Orpha and Oscar Pitts family and my mother was Carol Pitts Rainey. Please let me know how we are related. Her mother was Helen Pitts and her father was Allan Pitts, who I believe is on your side if I'm not mistaken. Mamie Pitts was his aunt.
I would love to find out more info on our family- anything you know would be helpful. Past the Orpha Tester Pitts and Oscar Pitts, I don't know much. My grandfather Allan died when my mom was 4 so we never got to know his family at all.
Thanks, feel free to email me here or at

RE: Old Pitts Cemetary
I went to see Bill Austin yesterday. He was delightful and drove me in his ATV to the cemetery. Photos have been posted including an overall cemetery one which should show up as soon as F-A-G approves it. As you will see, I added an "Unknown". Let me know if you think it is appropriate and I will transfer to you as it should be with a descendant.
Thanks so much for your assistance!

Pitts Cemeteries,Watauga Co., NC
I recently photographed one of the Pitts Cemeteries on Russ Cornett Rd in Watauga Co., NC and would like to find and photograph the other one listed on F-A-G. Can you give me any more guidance about access to it? Do I need to just head up the steep bank into the woods off Russ Cornett Rd near where Winkler Rd intersects or is there better access?

RE: pictures of headstones
Thank you. If you have other stones or cemeteries in Watauga county, just let me know. I'm not signed up as a volunteer photographer, but willing to help those who are friends.

Hi Sherry,
Thanks for making the corrections.
This cemetery is called the "cook" cemetery, but in the county records it is called the Cook-Taylor Cemetery. Not that it is important, but it appears the two families intermarried at several points.
Hope you have had a happy holiday.
