re: Susannah Rightmire
The age at death was taken from a reading of the cemetery from long ago....I have changed the date to 1840 from 1810....the reading was probably incorrect. 4's are hard to read when they become worn and do sometimes look like a 1. I have seen that before!

This cemetery is very badly damaged from floods, age, etc. Too near the river!! Many stones missing!

You have done a lot of research on this family. Are you related?

Ausborn Anderson
Please note - the Ausborn Anderson I was referring to in my previous message was Greely Ausborn Anderson, married to Matilda Johnson for whom you found the court documents. His memorial number is 53326728.

The Ausborn Anderson you linked to was born 10 years later than Greely and his wife was Mary not Matilda.

Auborn Anderson

Just want to let you know that the date of death you are stating is actually the date of the property auction. This Ausborn Anderson died in the Civil War on 7 October 1864. Just two days later his youngest child, Mary, was born.

Melvin Anderson
Link to memorial:

From You:

You identify that apparently Melvin was born out of wedlock to Matilda Anderson. I find Melvin with the Wesley Anderson family in the 1870 census -- proving that old addage that genealogists mus not assume that census listings are not proof of children! Can you provide me any more support or clarification?

The US Census record for 1880, NC, Wilkes Co., Lovelace Twp., ED 217, Page 16, dated June 23rd shows Matilda Anderson, age 43, single and her son, Melvin, age 20, single.

The US Census record for 1910, NC, Wilkes Co., Wilkesboro, ED 182, Sheet 16A, dated May 5th shows Melvin, his wife, Mary, 5 of their children and his mother, Matilda J. age 71[sic], widow (which is questionable) who had one child. [should be 73]

I hope this helps you to resolve this issue with your branch of our Anderson family.

I live in Arizona but travel a bit for genealogical research and was up in Montana this past May. We had just arrived in Hardin the evening the major snowstorm hit and were unable to visit my husband's 2Xgreat grandfather's burial site at Custer National. We'll probably try again next year but will wait until later in the summertime.

Best Regards,
