DARDANELLE — L.D. "Bud" McElroy, 78, of Dardanelle died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at Baptist Medical Center.
He was born May 29, 1928, at Carden Bottoms to Rostus and Iva Hudgens McElroy, the youngest of nine children. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army in 1948, he spent several years working in construction. He worked for several new car dealers in the area and started P.J.'s Auto more than 25 years ago. Bud spent most of his life selling automobiles, making a great number of friends through that business. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Wesley McElroy.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Debbie McElroy of Angleton, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Jack Nelson, Paula and Nathan White of Dardanelle; four grandchildren, Joe and April McElroy of Angleton, Texas, Ian and Joanie Nelson of Wahiawa, Hawaii, Chelsey and Seth White of Dardanelle; three great-grandchildren, Victoria McElroy, Joel McElroy, John Nelson; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy McElroy of Muskogee, Okla., Rena McElroy and Johnnie McElroy of Dardanelle; brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Mildred Wesley of Dardanelle; several special nieces, and a number of children who called him Papa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at Calvary Baptist Church, Dardanelle, with Bro. Jonathan Whitlock officiating. Interment will be in BREARLEY Cemetery in Dardanelle.
Active — William Crone, George Garrison, Nick Gault, Kenny Gilbert, Hollis Shadden and Sammy Via.
Honorary — Euel Campbell, Art Crowell, David Garrison, Shirley Judkins, Jake Liles, Buck Martin, Gwen Martin, Dr. Gene D. Ring, Chuck Standridge, R.L. Summers, Loyd Tidwell, Herbert Lee Underwood, Mike Whitbey, Yell County Sheriff's Department.
Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 532, Dardanelle AR 72834, or Baptist Health Foundation, 9601 I-630 Exit 7, Little Rock AR 72205.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at Cornwell Chapel. Arrangements are by Cornwell Funeral Home, Dardanelle.
