Bio and Links
Bio Photo Please do not post death certificates on my memorials. I find them offensive; send me the info and I will add in the bio. I am in the process of removing any that I have added. Although this practice is permissible by Findagrave, I think it is really in poor taste. It's strictly my opinion, which I am entitled to!

Duplicate memorials: if I have made one, let me know; I will ask FAG administrators to merge into one. They have been very helpful in the past to merge duplicate memorials. When FAG administrators merge two memorials, none of the flowers, etc. are deleted.

When I send an edit, I have usually found the information on Ancestry.com or another source backed up by documents; and in the case of family members, it is personal knowledge or family documents. If you need exact info, let me know and I'll tell you the source. Also thanks to everyone who send edits on memorials managed by me. It's impossible to know everything about everyone and your edits/corrections are appreciated. However, if your information differs from mine, I probably will decline the edit; or research again to confirm.

Thanks to everyone who have left flowers and notes on my Uncle: Augustus (Gus or Junior) Byrd (Find A Grave Memorial# 48422763), who died in a Japanese Prison Camp in 1943. This brave soldier as well as all others who have served and/or given their life for their Country deserve all the honor and praise we can give them.

If you wish to leave a message for me, please go to a memorial and leave a message under the edit tab or public contact.

RE: Initialed tombstones at Byrd Cemetery
Hi Joyce,

Are you related to Cynthia and Tony(?) Byrd? (Their parents owned one of the (two) stores at 'The Grove' for many years.)

As for the initialed grave stones, it has always sorta 'haunted me' that nobody would know the names of the persons buried there, and it has bugged me for decades! I was surely SURPRISED to see PICTURES of them online!!!

I feel extreme RELIEF to be able to share what little I know...and it's not much.

I never knew the cemetery has an 'official name' until yesterday: Granddaddy always called it 'Booger Hill' - even as a boy - so that's what I've always called it. Who knew?!?!?

******

I haven't finished my post for 'T E S', but I'll do it in a few minutes.

Grave marker 'T E S' is Thomas E Stone, another great-great-uncle: A son of George William Sr, and older brother of George William Jr. I have no further information about wives or children.

THANK YOU for providing me with an opportunity to put NAMES on those head stones! For some reason, I'm awash in tears of happiness, and the SPIRITS seem to be CELEBRATING!

Bless You!

Mike

Two Emily's
I think you have gotten the situation straightened out! Congratulations! It was really confusing with the two wives, both named Emily. The only question I have is the information provided by Phyllis Garner Davis in the book, Gwinnett County Families, 1818-2005. She states that Joel married on 4 Nov 1853 to Emily Rice, daughter of John H. Rice and Martha____Rice. The book, Gwinnett County, Georgia: Marriages, 1833-1900 shows a different year for the marriage, 4 Nov 1858. I think there was a typo in the first book, and that there was perhaps a difference of a few days between the date they got the marriage license and the wedding. What do you think? I can't explain the difference in the names of Emily's parents however, John H. & Martha Rice vs. Benjamin William & Anny Rice. Oh, well, I'm sticking with your findings.

Emily Rice and Emily Bowen
Okay, see if this sounds plausible. Joel married Emily Dicy Bowen on 17 Aug 1852 and they had Mary Jane Etheridge 1853-1922. Then Emily Bowen passed away and Joel remarried to Emily Rice on 4 Nov 1858 and they had two children, William Benjamin and John R. The 1860 Census show a 7 year gap between the first two children.

Does this make sense and explain all the marriage certificates and everyting?? Jody

William H Bird
William H Bird and Eliza Jane Hart/Bird are my 3rd-great-grandparents. Their daughter Malina/Linna/Lena married Watt Carter whose daughter Dora Virginia/Ginny married Little Jesse Thompson. Their son Arvey John Thompson married Pearlie Maybelle Still. They had seven daughters, one of whom was my mother Lola Grace Thompson who married Junior Patton and they had me: Linda Gail Patton Lewis Hammock.
My mother's oldest sister told me back in the 1970s that her grandparents were Little Jesse and Ginny Thompson. Also Lena and Watt Carter. I found on the census 1930 Walton County where my grandparents and my mother lived next door to Dora Thompson and Lena Carter who were both living with Dora's (Ginny's) youngest son Thomas. I am at a brick wall on Watt Carter aka Isach/Isaiah Watson Carter. Lena Carter's death certificate says she is buried at Barnett Graveyard in Jersey, GA (Walton County) Also my cousin who lives in Monroe talked to the funeral home owner and he says they have a lot of old records there. Thanks, Gail

She was a neat and classy lady. I spent many years in the Masonic Lodge with Fred. That is how I first met her.
