I research Merritts who are related to our first known Merritt ancestor, Mathew Merritt b 1758. He lived and died in Ohio but we know nothing of his birthplace or his ancestors. His descendants, with names such as Beam, Brown, Warner, Doty, Pierson, Harris, Mills etc, extended throughout the Midwest in the Dakotas, Nebraska, Iowa and then westward to California.

Moses Merritt
Kathy,
No, I don't have any information on Moses' Pa. birth
nor do I know who is parents were. I do wish I did.
He died 2-6-1823 in Centerville, Indiana area. Had been in Belmont Ohio also. Married Mary Martha Johnson.
They were parents of Mary, Margaret, Ephraim Johnson, John and Catherine.
Did you find in your search that Matthew Merritt had a brother named Moses?
My Pop has always told us that our Merritt family descends from three Merritt brothers that came from Welch. Have no names for them either.
I saw that Colleen Sanders Brown had also replied to you. She does descend from the same Merritt line that I do. Her 3 X grandmother and my grandfather were brother and sister. Descending from
John Merritt, son of Moses Merritt 1768.
Should you find that Moses and Matthew are connected, please let me know. I do wish I had the answers. Thank-you for getting in touch.

I'm sorry I don't have any other information for this lady. My interest was in her husband and my Black family line. Sorry

RE: Merritts from Pennsylvania
Good morning! I'm related to the Merritt family through my 3x Great Grandmother, Rebecca Merritt Galbreath. If I remember correctly (it's early and I'm not positive lol) her father was Moses Merritt but I could be mistaken...it may be a John Merritt...I'll look up my files here in a little bit and get back to you :)

RE: Merritt Photos
Kathy,
You are very welcome. I get a great deal of satisfaction out of knowing I helped a family find a part of their history. Please let me know if I can help you in eastern Nebraska. Chuck

Merritt Photos
Karen,

Posted photos for James and Katherine Merritt today. The 'font' style they used on the marker makes it a bit difficult to read. In the comments for the top photo, on each, I included the dates and the GPS coordinates so you can find the marker easy. Hope you like them.

Chuck
