Forty-something, happily married to a great guy, and living "7 miles from nowhere" in Bates County, MO, a mile from the Kansas line. Two sons, the youngest is a student at University of Central Missouri. Genealogy and history are a couple of my many and varied interests. I garden, keep chickens and other poultry, and was "green" decades before it was "a thing." I was a semi-trailer mechanic (yep, a gal that didn't mind getting greasy) until my disability, and I also volunteer my time as a keyer/arbitrator (doing transcriptions) for the Ancestry World Archives Project. Those transcriptions get added to Ancestry.com to be searchable by anyone with a subscription, and many are available for free. I have an Ancestry subscription, and am trying to get all information available on there attached to each memorial I manage, as time allows. There are many resources there, and more are added all the time. I highly recommend the site.|
I am happy to transfer memorials I've made to family, all you need to do is ask. If there are errors on memorials I manage, please let me know.
My first "large" project will be to completely list the Woodfin Cemetery in Walnut Township, Bates Co., MO. Between my disability and "real life," though, it's slow going. I am determined to complete Woodfin, no matter how long it takes. :-)

Hi Mary, I am contacting you because Jaime Crandall-Stapleton's (Find A Grave #46811611) messages have been disabled and you took the headstone photo for him. I would like to see if you could please add his mother and father to his Find A Grave Memorial, #39492164. His father is George Foster, Find A Grave Memorial #25908515, and his mother is Martha Allman Foster, Find A Grave Memorial #25908524.
William C Foster is my grand uncle.
If you can't do it, I will understand.
Please let me know.
Thank you very much!!

I just came across your picture of Mary's tombstone covered with the aluminium foil to bring out the words. I was so impressed. I would never thought of doing that! How did you come up with this idea? How did you manage to take pictures without glares? I would love to hear from you.
I can be reached at mnich5 at aol.com :-)

You're right about much better documentation. When the Mormons did the documentation of Bates County Cemeteries for the book at the Butler Public Library, they missed some visible stones in some cemeteries; when they printed the book, they didn't proofread for spelling errors; and they didn't get all of the cemetery book listings. Oak Hill for example, has had many flat stones uncovered since then in different areas that they didn't know about. Last year, I updated the cemetery records for the City of Butler and took pictures of every visible stone in Oak Hill. All photos, where needed, were added to memorials al ready started in Oak Hill. Even then, I had to added 1500 plus memorials on Find A Grave for Oak Hill. I, also, listed some 1200 graves that have no stone at all (about 8% of the burials in Oak Hill. Since that time, the Butler Public Library genealogical department has decided for using Find A Grave for referring people to when doing genealogical research for Bates County. Family History Center was working on their own new website that is supposed to have all of the info of all 104 plus cemeteries in Bates County done & up to date, but it had been a slow process for them. I have donated all of my 18K plus pics I took last year around Bates County to them, but Family History Center is short of funds & volunteer help to get the project done. So, eventually, I think they will rely on Find A Grave since they know now that Ancestry.com has bought them out. There is a lday that has already documented and photo'd Scott Cemetery & has a book at the library & says she will keep that cemetery up to date. That's what is needed all around the county. Since 1980, the cemeteries that have more than doubled in size are Oak Hill, Crescent Hill, Green Lawn, & Hume.
I recently got Hume done. And Stacy Hutton has walked all of Crescent Hill to make an updated book for the Butler library.

You're very welcome! The reason I went over to photo them was to help out the library genealogical dept. & Family History Center. Would you like memorials also for Independence & Salem? Sorry to hear about your disability. Life is tough & none of us know how we are going to turn out.
Saw your nice bio. Transferred 22 memorials in Woodfin to you since you live closer & want to fully do it. Thanks for your effort when you have the time.
