|Susanne D||Photo Request|
Hello, I'm a find a grave photo volunteer who lives near the Memorial Park Cemetery.in Skokie, IL. There is some confusion about photos at this cemetery, but when I contacted the cemetery, they said photos are allowed. However they will charge me $10 for more than one lookup. You can call the office and request one lookup. If you can post the location in the photo request I will attempt to get the photo for you. The number is 847-864-5061. Please don't email me with the location, because there are 180 open requests. Susanne D.

I rechecked her death record, which included her birth date and parents names.... I definitely made a typo. She was born in 1836. Thank you for catching this!

I added the picture to Elijah Chase. It comes up as the top picture so you may want to rearrange them. Caption includes basic info about the hall.

By the way, now that you maintain the memorials, you can add all the biographical information, add pictures, do as you please with them. Feel free to use the memorial pictures as you see fit. I don't have an overall picture of the Chase plot and can't get it now (buried under snow) but I will put it on my list of things to do this spring. The Riley monument is in the shady part of Park Street and took multiple tries before I got what I did so I'm sorry, but I don't have the technical skills to get better ones.

Elijah Chase's plot has the large marker with CHASE on it and is surrounded by the small stones with the names and dates. If you want, just copy paste the "CHASE" marker from Elijah to Lavina if you want the larger marker on her memorial also. That area of the cemetery has a lot of the plots arranged that way - 1 large marker with a family name surrounded by smaller markers for each member.
Florence is a suburb of Northampton, MA. It was developed by a community of "free thinkers" and called the Northampton Association of Education & Industry in 1842 - part of the transcendalist movement with Emerson/Thoreau/Alcott, Brook Farm kind of thing. It failed by 1846 but the members remained. In the 1860's, 35 members, who belonged to no established church, founded the Free Congregational Society of Florence. By the early 1870's, they outgrew their space and built their own building - Cosmian Hall - in 1874. It was next to Lilly Library. Resident speakers (their equivalent of a pastor/rector) included both men & women. The building was torn down as unsafe sometime in the 1920-1930's. I'm surprised that there isn't a picture in the Library of Congress images on line. I know it shows up as an old postcard on e-bay from time to time (where I bought mine). If I can get a decent picture of it, I will add it to the memorial.
Joseph Riley is buried in Park Street Cemetery with a lot of the founding members of the NAEI & the subsequent more prominent members of the FCS of Florence - Alfred T Lilly, Samuel Lapham Hill, Charles Burleigh (the first resident speaker), A. P. Critchlow, etc. They raided England for the talent they needed for their manufacturing concerns (Critchlow originally was recruited from England by Hayden for his button expertise but A.P. also had his own daguerrotype business among other concerns). I've got all the memorials & pictures for Park Street on F.A.G. but I'm still working on the biographical information for my next cemetery tour.
Probably more than you ever wanted to know.

I kind of got lost in doing all the transfers so if I missed someone you want, please let me know and I'll transfer them over.
By the way - Welcome to Find A Grave!
|P.K. Magruder||Levina Bowers' parents|
Are these her parents - Joseph #39433369 and Mary #39433373 buried in Park Street Cemetery in Florence?
Would you like the whole inter-related clan if they are?

Lavina's marker is labelled Levina. She & Nathan are buried in the Elijah Chase plot. Elijah built Cosmian Hall in Florence. The entire family was from England. Given that George Bryant Chase also is buried in that plot, there must be some connection with Lavina. If you find it, let me know and I'll transfer the rest of the family.
