RE: John G Courson
Thanks Roger. You can look for my email as I would love to have a scan of the letters to go in my genealogy book.

RE: Breakfields

This photo was in my grandmother album. I only know John and Margaret (Little) Breakfield in the photo. There was no names on the picture. I posted this photo on my tree at and on the Breakfield board hoping someone might know who the other people are. I believe it is a family reunion photo. I know the Breakfield had family reunions for a long time.

How is your friend connected to the family?

Feel free to check out my family tree at this link should take you to it

Also feel free to email me at with any other questions.

RE: Courson Genealogy
Roger, I found this info in 'The IL GenWeb Project" COURSAN, John Private Greenbush Aug 21, 1862 Mustered out Jun 26, 1865 and COURSAN, Samuel Private Greenbush Aug 21, 1862 Dischared Jan 10, 1863. As you can see the last names are spelled wrong, which makes it hard to locate these people at times.

James Ross is my G Grandfather and a brother to John G and Samuel. James enlisted around 1863 and he mustered out in Nashville, TN.

Go after his military record and I think you will find out that the letter you have is from John Gustine Courson.

Good luck
Betty Reese
PS: Do you by chance have a letter from James Ross Courson?

RE: Courson Genealogy
It is quite possible that the letter is from John G Courson as he did enlist abt 1862 in IL. My line is thru John Courson and Hannah Gustine, than their son James Ross, a brother to John G. The only info I have on John G is that he married Sarah F Boydston Oct 9, 1866 in Knox, IL which I got from IL website. Other than that, I have census records from ancestery and a death date of Dec 26, 1922 in Sangamon, Springfield, IL which is also from IL website.

The only child I have for John and Hannah is John Courson. I have none of their other children.

I just recently found out that James Ross died in KS and not IL like most of the ancestry trees have. I have ordered his pension records.
