I am first generation born here so all my research has been made possible by other people and different organizations that have posted information on the web. I once went to my parents hometown in "the old country". I was there for a couple of weeks and didn't get much research done. I thought then, that genealogy would always be out of my reach. But due to the timing of my interest in this very fascinating hobby, lots of volunteer work has made it possible for me to trace many different family lines successfully. (A lot of them right from my livingroom) So....
to repay all the volunteers that have helped my research I am now trying to repay this wonderful community by volunteering some of my time. I had a Girl Scout troop for 10 years-their last 2 years we spent it restoring and then reclaiming the James Cemetery in Easton, Washington County, NY. These 5 girls, ranging from the age of 12 to 14 years of age, completed the task after hundreds of hours over a 17 month span. Thank you to my wonderful Girl Scouts and their families.
For the past year I have been working on reclaiming the Evangelical Protestant Church cemetery, Krumkill Rd. Albany County, Albany, NY with a woman (by the name of Mary Anne)whom I met on find a grave. Together we go there once a week and clean brush and vines off the headstones that will eventually over run this cemetery. As we clean a section, we take pictures of the headstones and any other marker that we find and post it to this website. There is no way that the two of us will ever be able to stay ahead of the wilderness that is trying so hard at all times to become a field once again. We do occasionally get a volunteer to come in for a day and help us out but they usually don't come back :(
So for the next couple of years this cemetery will be part of my life. and when all is said and done we will hopefully have photographed all that is to be remembered for future generations to come.
So may you be lucky enough to get the genealogy bug and then the volunteer bug to help us all become one big happy family. Lydia

Thank you and the girls from your former troop for reclaiming this cemetery! We had searched for this cemetery once on a family trip. We were not able to find it and assumed it had been plowed under years ago. What a happy surprise to find that total strangers cared enough to restore it. :-)

Thank you so much for posting this cemetery. Thank you also for helping preserve it. Many generations of my family is buried here. Do you have any additional information regarding the cemetery and the people who currently own it?

Again thank you. I'm so happy that the cemetery was preserved.

You're welcome. I'll have to look for more to remove the ads from. I love Find A Grave and would love to keep it in the "free zone"! It's a great site and so exciting to find a long lost ancestor.
Thanks for all you do,

Transfer- Friebel
Hi Lydia,

I forgot to ask you to transfer the great grand parent's. Charles Friebel #65031914 and Natalie Geyer Friebel #65031875. The information that you put down was very helpful in my research and brought people together. I will not take that info off. It is very important for future generations!

Thank you, Annette #47901904
