Working on project to enter all of Forest Lawn Cypress and Long Beach, CA. Thanks to all the volunteers!!! Searching for family across the miles too.|
For any update or request -- Send me a message through the EDIT button (at the top right of the page)- a message will get forwarded to me. I try to respond within a few days for each message.
If you are looking for additional family for a particular surname, or nearby memorials, send me a note from one of my memorials. I can sort my database by location as well as by name.
If you add a grave photo to a memorial that I manage, or come across additional info, feel free to let me know and I'll be happy to link family members, add additional grave marker info, etc.
Recently, after three recent deaths of people I knew, this project took on new urgency -- that it would be more helpful to get the names and plot locations listed, so that people can find their family members. Over time, we can add more details, together. Since I am now less able to walk the rows myself, I rely on contacts from the edit button to tell me when someone is interested in a particular memorial, surname, or family. Yes, I'm willing to update, and will transfer per FAG guidelines.
IF you are in the Cypress or Long Beach CA area, and can help with this project, please contact me.We could use help with walking the sites.

These are areas where only the name, plot, and death date have been entered, so far. If you have additional information, please feel free to use the Edit button in the upper right hand corner. As requests come in, I am adding more information to these, and linking family members when I have time.
If you are interested in walking the cemetery to update, please contact me and I'll send you a spreadsheet that has the data in location order.
Forest Lawn, Cypress
There was an issue with the upload for Awakening Faith, and some of the entries for Sunrise. I've requested a fix, but it may take some time. Pay no attention to "FALSE" It doesn't mean anything.
Forest Lawn, Long Beach
Birth dates are being added from SSDI or CADI matching ONLY. No rows have been walked as of Nov 2012. Each section listed has had all remaining entries from Chris' database entered onto FAG.
Acadia, all rows
Azalea, all rows
A little summary of the Cypress Forest Lawn Project - Please see Chris Mill's webpage for a complete background of the project.
The database that Chris created, and that I am now updating, started with the available info from the Forest Lawn Directory, and then was matched by computer with the largest portion of the California Death Index or Social Security Death Index (some early or late entries were not available for this type of data matching). Once Chris got through the automated matches and some clean up, he passed the remaining entries for Cypress and Long Beach on to me.
Since these remaining did not match easily, we want to verify accuracy. This is being done, one row of plots at a time, with a combination of walking the site with a list from the database, and checking for additional info on folks from other online databases. It is slow but steady.
If there's an issue I didn't catch while researching, I'd like the opportunity to correct or revise my work. (Yeah, it's a little bit of a pride thing...)
THANK YOU TO THE VOLUNTEERS
The majority of Find A Grave contributors are really nice people, who spend time adding to this resource for all of us.
There are great data contributors, who search out sources, add details, and link family members through careful research.
There are photo volunteers who spend hours walking the graves, taking photos, cropping, posting and filling in the location information.
There are even traveling Find A Gravers, who spend time filling requests away from home! This helps all of us.
Re: RELATED INDIVIDUALS
If two grave markers occupy the same space number or, are next to one another and share the same last name, I link them as spouses. This information does not come from any source other than the proximity of the graves, unless I'm contacted by someone providing additional info.
LINKING FAMILY MEMBERS
I'm happy to link family members, if you'll kindly provide the FAG memorial # along with the name to link to. But please remember, links go from a child to their parents -- If I did not create the child's entry, I cannot add the link for the parents for you. Spouses are easier, because either one can create the link to the other.
PLEASE verify the information independently. If there is no picture of the grave marker yet, put in a photo request. It's the best way to be sure you've gotten all the info off the grave marker. For direct relations -- Check with the Forest Lawn office to be sure that you get all the info available for family members.
Thanks to Chris Mills for sharing, and the volunteers who send more info, particularly those who walk the cemetery and fill in blanks in the spreadsheets. This is definitely a mutual effort! This project has benefited from great volunteers, including Frances Cope, C. Bryan, Billy Brown, and many others who continue to add detail to the memories of these folks.
And yes, I am still researching my own family trees. I'm the primary family historian for several branches of the family. As I have time, I'm slowing scanning and adding information on family members, linking the family lines, and adding memorials when I know where they were buried.

Pam, would you have any more info on Ella Jean Rumfelt buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, Orange Co. Ca.? I am related to all the Rumfelt's in California. I don't know if that is her married name or not, if so, I probably have her in my database by her maiden name. Thanks so much and for all you do at Find A Grave, Betty
