I descend from two generations of funeral home accountants, so it was no surprise that I later married the funeral home owner's son, a well-known and popular funeral director and mortician. At one time, his family owned eight funeral homes in south Mississippi.
When I was a small child, I remember walks with my Daddy in the cemetery, as he took my hand and taught me the proper way to walk around the graves. Occasionally, he would stop at one of the graves and tell me about the life of the resident. To this day, I continue his tradition of placing flowers at the graves of the same family members he visited on holidays.
My mother taught me to love history and opened the world of genealogy to me. When I came across Find A Grave, I knew it was the perfect medium to capture my love of cemeteries, history, and genealogy. I particularly enjoy walking these cemeteries, taking pictures to preserve for the next generation, and sometimes feeling the same peace I felt when my Daddy took my hand and walked beside me. | |
