RE: Thank you!!
Hi Jan,

I can tell you a little about the Hamberlins.

John Burgess Hamberlin was known pretty universally as JB. He was the son of William Hamberlin and Susannah Yarbourough (I think that was her name). They were some of the first Baptists to move down into Spanish territory and were really persecuted for not being Catholic.

You can find a bunch of stuff on W'm on the web in early histories of the Baptists and of Mississippi. JB was also a minister and he founded a series of Churches along the railroad from Mobile to New Orleans...

He was married three times, first to Virginia L. Stone, second to Sarah Mullins (I've seen two names for her but I think this one is more likely correct) and then to my gg aunt, Mary Pearce. He had only one child with his first wife...Lafayette Rupert Hamberlin who was a poet and professor and moved away from the south.

John also set up (and ran for awhile) Meridian Female college in Meridian, Mississippi. Hearing that there was a school in Healing Springs associated with him doesn't surprise me... Mary's sister Josephine may have taught there as she was a teacher.

I can point to websites if you want that info...just ask.

Thank you!!
Dear Jan,

I cannot thank you enough for taking this photograph of Rebecca Conrow Pearce's grave.

It made me cry to see it.

She moved with her daughter Mary Pearce Hamberlin, who was married to JB Hamberlin (also burried there in Healing Springs Cemetery) sometime after 1880 from Mobile.

She was the daughter of Hannah Stokes and Samuel Conrow and was born in New Jersey.

Thank you so, so much!
