Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've only been doing research for a couple of decades but my husband has been looking on and off since "Roots" was on tv. I've followed my mother's line back to a Mayflower passenger and my father's to William Shakespeare's grandfather. I've followed my mom's ancestors back to a minor royal and also the original Dutch settlers of New Amsterdam. In fact the area of Manhatten known as Flatbush today is where his farm was. I even found the document describing the purchase. You never know what you'll find in your family tree!

I have added the mother/father links. In the future, please send update requests via the "edit" tab then choosing "Suggest a correction or provide additional information".

I am sorry about the photo. There is no way I can remove it since I did not post it. I just take the photos of the stones and post to Find A Grave with a memorial if one is not already created.

The information with the stone is from another member who asked me to add the info to the memorial.

Wish I could have been more help.

Hi Debra,

That's great! Do you know which relative it was for whom they posted the photo?

Thanks again,

David

Ardath Garnier

Hi Debra,

Yes, Ardath Garnier was my blood great aunt! My grandmother, Ruth (Ranney) Ponsar was her older sister. I remember that Ardath's husband's name was Louis. What is your connection from you to our great aunt Ardath?

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

I'm glad that your mom lives so close to you!

RE: Robert Ponsar Jr.

Thanks, Debra!

You're right, it's really hot here in the summer. It's in the high 90s today but the humidity is still low - only 10% - so it's manageable. But it gets a little humid in July or August and then it becomes uncomfortable outside. Town becomes very quiet during the summer.

Are we related in any way or are you only related to the Garnier family? There were seven Ranney sisters but only a couple of them had children. My father was the eldest of the children and the only one for many years so he was doted on by all of those women. Grace and Fern had no children, my grandmother only one and Helen two, although one of Helen's died as a teenager. Katherine had two. So that family wasn't very prolific.

I love family trees but since I retired I haven't gotten into it as much as I had planned. But now you've motivated me to get started again.

Take care and hope to be in contact with you again. Where does your mom live?

David

RE: Robert Ponsar Jr.

Hi Deborah,

I had no idea that you live in San Jose! I live in Palm Springs. For some reason I thought that you lived in Maynard. Do you also keep a family tree on Ancestry.com or MyHeritage.com? Now I'm going to look up your father. I'm sorry to hear that he passed away. I think it's even harder when someone passes away on a holiday or someone's birthday. I hope that you're having a nice Memorial Day and please say hello to Gary from me.

Take care,

David

RE: Robert Ponsar Jr.

Hi Debra,

Your project sounds really exciting! Where do you live?

My name is David Ponsar and my father was Warren Ponsar. Robert Ponsar, Jr. was my dad's father. My father and mother are buried in Communia, Iowa, where Jabob Ponsar, who immigrated from Germany in the 1800s, is buried.

Out here in California these days very few people are buried in cemetery plots. People are usually cremated and the remains are kept by friends or relatives, or they are scattered. Some people do buy niches in mausoleums for the ashes. It's very expensive here to have a traditional burial.

Hope you're having a great Memorial Day weekend!

Keep in touch,
David Ponsar
