I agree...probably death cert will be the best proof. I can see how the newspaper might have reported the wrong name if his son's name was George. I found the obit on GenealogyBank, the paid subscription site. It's great if they have the city you are interested in but they don't have every city in Illinois, of course. Good luck on your efforts!

|BjJ||Cantrall photo request|
Regarding your photo request for M. E. Cantrall in Oak Ridge Cemetery, #24704494: yes, the cemetery listed him as M. E. Cantrall, age 75 years. I found his obituary and it stated his name as George, age 65. He was buried in the County Grounds, which is Block 1, numeric sections. There is no other Cantrall or name variation who died in that month and year. I know obits and cemetery records do not always agree, but do you know if he went by the name of George? Please take a look at the obit I added for him, it may help you. Also, unfortunately, the County Grounds is an area of Block 1 where there are very few stones with hundreds of unmarked graves. I do not think he has a marker as I have photographed that area and don't have anything for him. This would not be unusual since the County paid for his burial. If you do not think this is him, would appreciate you removing the photo request. Thanks.
