Bio

My interests as a genealogist lie in the mapping of the descendants of Rev Samuel Schwerdfeger, born in Germany in 1733, and died in Williamsburg, Ontario, in 1798. At age 19, he arrived in the Province of Maryland in Dec 1753 and, for some years, preached the Lutheran Gospel, in German, in MD, PA and NY. He supported the English King George III (who was, in fact, German and Emperor of Hannover, Samuel's ancestral land) and eventually relocated to Ontario, where he founded the Lutheran Church, preaching at Matilda and Williamsburg from 1792 to his death in 1798. He is recognised as a United Empire Loyalist, as is one of his sons, John Augustin.

I am a 5th great grandson. My grandfather, Miles Barclay, changed his name from Swerdfeger to Barclay in 1930. Many present day Schwerdfeger, Swerdfeger, Swerdfager, Swartfiguer and other close variations living in Canada and the US today are the Rev Samuel's direct descendants.

I am happy to correspond with anyone concerning this line.
