RE: Benjamin Parmeter
Hi Glen

That was so tragic for your mom to have lost her first husband and her brother. Thank you for sharing the link to your uncle's memorial. My dad's cousin is buried in the Netherlands but not the same cemetery as your uncle Joseph. His name was Delmar James Robert McClean and he is buried in Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery.

I also went to the link on your uncle's memorial for his father and noticed that he served in WWI. My grandfather served with the 76th Battalion and was wounded at the Battle of the Somme. He was sent to England to recuperate and that's where he met my grandmother.

My uncle's name was John (Jack) Peter Sweeney ... he was with the Royal Canadian Artillery, 4th Light Anti Aircraft Unit. You can find their memorials under my Virtual Cemeteries where it says "Casualties of War Family." I've been fortunate that people from my groups have visited both their graves and taken photos.

If you are on facebook and interested in joining the groups to share your uncle and grandfather's stories there I could email you the links for them (also to share the story of Benny). I noticed that CWGC has turned the management of Benny's memorial over to you so you can add his DOB or any other additional information. Maybe the creator of your grandfather's memorial would transfer management of it to you as well if you request it.

Take care,

Hi Glen

You are very welcome for the photo. Thank you for sharing some of Benny's story and adding the photo of him. How sad it must have been for your mom at the time. Every grave marker photo I add on Find a Grave I wonder about the person's story. These men were so young and gave their all for freedom and their families also paid a high price. My uncle who was the father of two young children was killed three days after landing at Juno Beach so I grew up seeing the price the families paid as well.

Benny's grave photo was taken by a young girl who lives in Ortona. She has visited every grave in Moro River Cemetery and taken photos which she shares on a couple of Canadian Memorial groups that I take care of. She very kindly gave me permission to add them to their Find a Grave Memorials. She is very dedicated at doing what she can to keep the memory alive of what these young men did for them. Do you mind if I copy Benny's photo to send to her and to put on our memorial sites?

Take care,
