RE: Meneley Family
Hi Jeanne,

Catherine and Mary Meneley Evertson, wives of Caleb Evertson were daughters of Joseph B. Meneley (1782-1844), my 4th great grand uncle.

My grandpa, Paul Meneley Fisher was named for his great grandmother, Hannah Meneley Bowman. He hated his middle name, but I've always liked it and have had fun trying to find my Meneley ancestors. Several years ago I called a Meneley from Illinois and was surprised he talked so Southern. I live in Northwest Minnesota. The first Meneley I've found is Jesse Meneley, who was born in Virginia and had sons who moved to Ohio to live.

Find a grave lists the Jefferson Davis Meneley (Jeff) 1857-1938 you mention plus George C. Meneley, his father. I am certain George and my family are related and I'll try and find the connection.

Sincerely,
Dianne Page Skauge

RE: Meneley Family

One PS about the other families you mentioned...

Caleb P. Evertson (f# 67525032)
b 25 Jun 1824
d 04 Sep 1889
Buried: Potomac Cemetery, Potomac, Vermillion, IL

married Catherine T. Meneley
on 21 Mar 1848
in Vermillion County, Illinois

Catherine T. (Meneley) Evertson (f# 67525066)
b 06 Mar 1824
d 17 Jan 1855
Buried: Potomac Cemetery, Potomac, Vermillion, IL

married Mary A. Meneley
on 19 Feb 1856
in Vermillion County, Illinois

Mary A. (Meneley) Evertson (f# 67526039)
b 22 Dec 1828
d 20 Jan 1898
Buried: Potomac Cemetery, Potomac, Vermillion, IL

=============================
Now in the same cemetery one can find
Caleb P. Evertson's in-laws, too...

Joseph B. Meneley (f# 67525109)
(Joseph's mother Hannah (f# 126253119))
(Joseph's brother Amos (f# 71459009))
b circa 1782
d 06 Nov 1844
Buried: Potomac Cemetery, Potomac, Vermillion, IL

and

Susan Meneley (f# 46324071)
(her maiden name unknown to me)
b 1795
d 11 Jan 1870
Buried: Potomac Cemetery, Potomac, Vermillion, IL

Some of their fifteen children included...
----------------------------------------
Isaac Taylor Meneley (f# 67475870)
Joseph B. Meneley (f# 126241132)
LUCAS S. MENELEY (f# 126212554) ... my George's (b 1853;IL) dad
Catherine T. (Meneley) Evertson (f# 67525066) ... 1st wife of Caleb
Mary A. (Meneley) Evertson (f# 67526039) ... 2nd wife of Caleb
Maria Jane (Meneley) Evertson (f# 54426351)

=============================

So, if your George (b 1811; VA) had a son named
Jefferson Davis Meneley (b 1857; TX d 1938; OK)
who was in the 1885 Kansas (Lincoln Co) State
Census with Caleb P. Evertson and wife#2 Mary

and

that same Mary was my George's (b 1853;IL) paternal
aunt... then it COULD possibly show these families are
linked ** BUT ** since the 1885 Kansas census doesn't
list relationships. We can't yet make that link.

Let's keep digging?
:)

While I will research a little bit further, I'm not sure
I'll find anything you don't already know. I think you've
got all the above already... but I wanted to send it just
in case there was one point you didn't have.

My brick wall is circa 1824, you've beat me by a decade!
I know, still frustrating!
Hang in there.
God bless.

Found 1870 Ind census which shows dad as Marsh William Baker 1827 and mom Ann 1827, another tree showed her last name as Logan. Must be them as Clara's middle name is William.
