Thomas Aven photo request
I would be happy to fill your photo request, however, can you contact Grove Hill cemetery and get the burial locations for your requests: 214-381-7118
There are over 323 photo requests and the volunteers can not ask for that many locations.

Your request will get filled with the location information. The cemetery does not like to cooperate with findagrave volunteers.
thanks!

Henry Leavitt Clough # 104733715
Hello,
Blossom Hill is a large cemetery, and it has a map dividing the cemetery in sections, so I think it would help finding where Henry is buried by contacting the Blossom Hill cemetery office. The office is located right at Blossom Hill, and the contact info is Jill McDaniel(cemetery administrator) 603-225-3911 9-5 Monday-Friday. She is very nice, and more than willing to help, and she can give you the exact location where Henry is in terred. regards, Kparn(Ken)

Cappel
Frieda,

Some things still don't add up quite right with what I've found on the Cappels, so they will remain a work in progress. Anton's branch seems to have been centered around St. Charles, but others in the family spent time there, too.

I'm hoping to find out soon if Thomas Henry Cappel and Mary Mikus Cappel share a stone at Zion Cemetery in St. Louis County. That would be interesting since I know she was married to his brother, Theodore. The owner of her memorial has her linked to Thomas as his wife. Hmmmmm. I'm hoping a stone picture will prove or disprove a theory I have on that one!

And why can't I find a death certificate in Missouri or Illinois for Theodore Cappel??

I feel I've made progress, but the Cappels remain an intriguing bunch!

Hi Frieda,

I went through all my Calhoun County books for you today and did a lot of digging through old obituaries and newspaper articles to try to get things straightened out a bit on the Cappels.

The Calhoun Historical Society published a new list of burials by cemeteries last fall. Their names and dates were mainly taken from old records at St. Mary's Church in Brussels. However, the Cappel information wasn't all that clear. Part of the problem stems from the fact that half of the family members are listed under the Cappel spelling and the remainder appear as Kappel.

I compared both lists to newspaper articles and census records. I made some fairly significant changes as a result. I deleted a few memorials that I believe to have been duplicates.

I came to the conclusion that the Gertrude Cappel (mother of Anton) linked to Casper had to be the wrong Gertrude. According to the record books, she died in 1879 and was survived by Casper, who died in 1880. I found her on the 1880 census in Calhoun County listed as a widow. I believe she actually was the Gertrude (Maria Gertrude Cappel) who died in 1882.

Unfortunately, the new Calhoun cemetery book contains quite a few mistakes. Considering the condition of some of the old stones and the handwriting in the old Latin record books, that's to be expected. Overall, they did a wonderful job. Nonetheless, varied spellings of surnames--like Kappel vs. Cappel--were very common in those days and make sorting records a very difficult job.

If you can provide additional information for any of the Cappel memorials I have on Find A Grave, I would be very interested in that. The best way to let me know is to use the Edit tab on the memorial in question.

I did the best I could, but I can't guarantee I got rid of all the mistakes. My ties to the Cappel family are distant ones, by marriage, so that pretty much limits my resources to public records and old newspapers. I have absolutely everything I know about the family posted on Find A Grave.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your research!

RE: Western State Hospital Cemetery
Mental hospital. State run, they are simply concrete markers with nothing written on them. This hospital is a very sad place indeed.
