Bat Reeves

Subject: Re: New Garden Cemetery and Bat's death date

Wendy, Grandpa Bat Reeves was alive in 1915, because on Grandma Inda Ella Dyer's death certificate, it lists her as being married, not a widow, not divorced or anything, but Married. And, grandpa Bat is nowhere to be found on the 1920 census. A relative by marriage emailed me for info on his burial site and I sent it to him and he lists Bat as being buried in the New Garden Cemetery, Elkmont, Alabama.

I talked to a historian and genealogist from Athens, and she stated that Bat was in the New Garden Cemetery and it was Athens, Alabama.

I think that I know why this distant relative did this. I tried to put grandpa Bat at same cemetery, but at Athens, Al and it would not let me put him in Athens, it kept coming up Elkmont, Al. [Placing his name on ancestry.com, I think is what she is saying--doing engine searches for...]

The historian stated that Elkmont is about 8 miles from Athens. She said he is wrong and a lady at the Athens, Limestone County, Courthouse stated that it was Athens.

To further confuse you, on Bat's small head stone "Reeves" is spelled "Reaves".

I think that his son, Uncle Nathan Reeves, probably paid someone a small amount of money to put a headstone on Bat's grave and they spelled his name wrong.

Then he went home, to Decatur, Al without seeing the headstone. He was taking Bat, who was very ill, to his house and Bat died in Athens, thus, he had him buried there.

I do not know anything about Bat's parents, siblings, Uncle or Aunt's. I have searched for years, to no avail.

Adam,
In our cemetery book of Limestone Co., AL we have no record of a Batholomew Reeves being buried in New Garden Cemetery or anywhere in Limestone Co. Could you give me the source of your info?
Thanks
