I was born in Tampa, Florida and I am an Interior Designer/Genealogist. I have strong southern roots in South Georgia and Mississippi. My Georgia search is of my paternal side of the Dykes,/Tyler, Humphreys/Gunn/Treadwell families of Brooks, Berrien, Cook, Lowndes, Thomas and Colquitt Co.

I also search my maternal side of Gray/Mathews aka Mathis, Stringer/Blakeney of La. and Smith Co., Miss.

Mathews/Mathis name change
It appears that this name originated as Mathias
in Germany...
My GrandFather was James Garfield D. Mathis
My G GrandFather was James B. Mathis
My GG grandfather was James Monroe Mathews
My GGG Grandfather was John R Matthews

I have info on James B. Mathis & James Monroe...
They come from Choctaw county, AL

James Garfield D. Mathis & Harvey Jefferson Mathews were brothers. Harvey went by different versions of name,Mathias, Mathews. Have no idea why?

RE: Lavinia M. Dykes
Wanda I have left a few messages through here on find a grave I will E-mail you to your email you gave me last time. I am making a trip to Cook and Berrien to search for the grave of our Mary Lavinia Stephens Howell, also to search for My 3rd Great grandfather John Crumpton and his wife Milberry Cannon Ryles Crumpton. I have a ancestry page also you can check out. I seem to be at a dead end from the 1900 census where she was living with Her son Charlie and Daughter. I do know Charlie married a Mittie Bender cause they had a child to pass away in Colquitt and both of there names are on the death Certficate. Well I'll gather my info and send you what I have and we can compare...Ok Your Kin Donna

Robert Louis Daniell
Pvt. Lewis W. Humphreys, C.S.A.
Hello, Wanda.

I was taking pictures of the graves of my Daniell family graves in Salem cemetery when I took the picture of Lewis' marker. I'm partial to those who served. Did not know who he was at the time. Just wanted to be sure there was a memorial for him. When I posted pictures of my family graves, saw Lewis' memorial and added the pic.

He is not related to me other than being the father of Holly Viola Humphreys who married Darling Osborn Baker, brother of my great-grandmother, Mary Melvina Baker, wife of Charles Henry Daniell, both buried in Salem cemetery along with several of their children.

There may be additional connections by these marriages, but I cannot connect them at present. If these Dukes are descendants of Edward Mitchell Dukes and Verlon Allen Daniell:
Lula mrd. John Dukes
Sally 1874 mrd. Dukes

I would be happy to discuss other family connections if you may discover.

You are welcome to visit my website.

Best Regards,
Robert Daniell

Do you know if Beulah's middle name or first name was Edna? Is the Edna in the cemetery a second wife of of Luther. I am trying to determine if the graves next to Howie are his parents.
