I have a new tablet which takes much better pictures. I will be replacing most of my old ones with new ones over the 2014 cemetery searching.|
I have been researching my family tree for about 30 years now, and just started really going through graveyards looking for family members about 20 years ago. I have found more information on the internet in the short time I have been researching here than in all the time I spent in libraries, courthouses, and town halls. I will be taking pictures of gravestones of as many people as I can and adding to local cemeteries and findagrave.com over the summer and fall of 2014. If anyone has a family member, that I have added to this site, to yourself (who is not a direct family member for myself) please let me know and I will be happy to transfer ownership to you. I'd would rather have family members maintain memorials than a stranger who has no connection, but I feel no burial place should be neglected or forgotten. If there is someone or a graveyard you wish me to find for you in the Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster County areas let me know and I will add it to my travels. My hope is to do a complete census of as many cemeteries as possible over the next few years.
Another note: for old New York newspaper articles you can use Fultonhistory.com. They have papers from the 1700's to 2000's. You can search for family members there.
One more note: I hereby give permission for all to use photos I have posted. I feel that if these are your family you have as much right to add them as I do. You do not need to ask, and I do not require you to attribute them to me, unless you wish too. It is good to find loved ones and I am happy that if I have found yours for you.

Ok I did as you suggested and put the photo back on Harry Taggart but will leave it off his wife Nellie.

This is my great great grandfather. Is there any chance you could transfer this to me? My grandma knew he was buried in New York, but didn't know exactly where.
Thank you very much in advance

I removed the photo that I wanted you to see. I think you're right that there are 3 Nellie Taggarts. What should we do about Harry Taggart that is on 2 stones. One photo that I took and one that you took. My only guess would be that the Taggarts wanted all of their children listed beneath them and he is buried in the plot of the photo that you took. I'll talk to the office next week and find out.
And yes this was confusing!

The 1900 US Federal Census shows George (b. 1854) and his wife Nellie (b. 1849) living in Newburgh with their children. The ones that we are concerned about are:
Nellie who was 11 and Harry who was 13...so they certainly were NOT married. The dates match the headstone. The parents have their other children listed on a stone nearby.
The 1915 NY State Census also shows them living together as brother and sister. They are living with their sister Margaret and are listed as brother and sister.
I posted (temporarily) the parents headstone with their children listed below them. The dates match. Nellie is very light on the bottom. You were looking at the Mother's date. I posted it for you to see and will remove it shortly.
I am not sure why the spelling was changed. A lot of my ancestors from the Woodstock area did not read or write. So, there are lots of variations of Yerry (my mother's maiden name).
Woodstock Cemetery has lots of Whispell's.

Thanks for the obit. I did update the death date and locations. My grandmother actually lived on Mill Street in Poughkeepsie when I was a child.
